When their names are called, 98 percent of all undocumented aliens ordered to appear at Harlingen Immigration Court do not answer. They are weeks into their new lives in all corners of the United States.
Nationwide, the number of non-Mexicans who are entering the country illegally is skyrocketing, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Through Aug. 9, for the first 10 months of fiscal 2005, a total of 135,097 non-Mexicans had been apprehended out of 1.02 million undocumented immigrants arrested overall. In all of fiscal 2004, the number of non-Mexicans apprehended was 75,392; in fiscal 2003, the figure was 49,545.

Thanks George for destroying our beautiful America so your buddies can line their pockets.
Hate to disagree, but I don't think you will ever see another Bush elected President. GW's stand on illegals is for one reason only -- that's to fill/line the pockets of his rich buddies, nothing more.
"Thanks George for destroying our beautiful America so your buddies can line their pockets."
As long as he keeps talking tough on Iraq and protecting stem cells the Bushbots won't care.
Yawn, you DUmmies really think you can get under the radar.
The class warfare gave you away.
Oh BTW, illegal immigration has been a problem for decades and some conservatives are trying to do something about it, such as Kyl/Cornyn.
Huh I wonder why you don't mention that.
"Oh BTW, illegal immigration has been a problem for decades and some conservatives are trying to do something about it, such as Kyl/Cornyn."
And they justifiably get credit for doing so. But the man with the most power on this issue is Bush, and he's riding the bike trails of Crawford Texas while an invasion is going on a little bit to the South.
Thanks for post #6!
Actually any immigration reform has to go through Congress, but it is so much easier for you to pop off with knee jerk slogans.
I think that strategery will backfire on G.W...
I think that legal latino citizens, the ones that can actually Vote, are as against illegal immigration as the rest of americans..
Illegals hurt latino-americans ability to compete for better wages in this country because of the stigma of being "suspected" of being illegal..
They end up getting paid less because of illegals entering this country..
Simply because they are latino..
Bush is making a big mistake..
GWB="Move along, nothing to see here"
You're very welcome EverOnward.

Actually Bush could wake up tomorrow and tell ICE and US attorneys to start enforcing the laws of the United States, which he SWORE to do, with regard to employers hiring illegal aliens.
The lack of prosecutions of employers is ALL in Bush's court- the law prohibiting it was passed by Congress in 1986.
He could also wake up tomorrow and call a press conference saying the border situation had become critical and that he called upon Congress to pass additional funding for border security immediately.
But he won't do anything like that, and the business interests will purr like a well-cared for cat.
Oh yes those "evil" businesses, the ones that grow food and build buildings.
Outside of the Minutemen, the Govs of New Mexico and Arizona, REP Tancredo (sp?), and lots of pi$$ed off locals, WHO the he!! exactly in power is doing anything?
But that's OK, because they have a plan to fix the problem.
