The Washington Times reports that Gov. Bill Richardson, D-NM, has successfully called for the destruction of a "staging area" across the New Mexico border with Mexico. These are shelters which provide water and some other humanitarian benefits to Mexican nationals seeking to cross the border to the U.S. Another interesting use of these facilities is to provide a bartering point for "coyotes" who charge a fee to help Mexicans cross the border.
These sites are maintained by Groupo Beta, a humanitarian organization funded by the Mexican government. According to the Washington Times report, they drive around in orange trucks stocking the staging areas with water adn supplies. They also handed out flyers a few months back warning people near the Arizona border that the Minute Men were on the other side "waiting to hurt them."
It makes one curious why the Bush Administration cannot accomplish on a large scale what the New Mexico Governor has on a small scale. Why have they not demanded the Vicente Fox government back off of facilitating the crossings and, in effect, the horrendous trade in human lives conducted by coyotes?
In saner times... this would provoke a war.
Anytime you hear the Fox howling, something good is occurring.
If we don't do something quickly we're looking at a Hillary/Richardson ticket in 2008. Not that I believe they are sincere about this, but in perception(maybe reality) it is still more than our President is doing.
Defeat McKennedy!
You have that one right. I imagine that Jeorge is having some restless nights as of late. The GOP does not take it's demise lightly. Lots of Senatorial positions coming up for vote. Don't seriously piss off the Southwest Republicans or you will meet your demise in the next election. I say this as as Republican.
What do they mean by "successfully"?
Did Americans go in and destroy the staging sites?
Richardson is going all the way...huh?
Not that I believe they are sincere about this, but in perception(maybe reality) it is still more than our President is doing.

Bush should pick his friends more carefully. He might try putting the citizens of his country at the top of the list for a change!!
If this can be verified, then this IS beyond a doubt an Act of War.
Is there anyone within our government that has the "intestinal fortitude" and/or "intellectual honesty" to call this for what it is?
I, for one, will not hold my breath on it.
Mexico, once a nation of proud people, has degenerated into a cesspool of humanity. Absolutely no pride or respect in for humanity.
The GOP does not take it's demise lightly. Lots of Senatorial positions coming up for vote.

Well I am wondering if that is really true? Based on this issue alone, the GOP is looking real bad, in fact, just like Dems. No difference. The only thing that GWB has done to differentiate the GOP from the socialists, is his response to 9/11 and a token tax reduction. Everything else has been just like the Dems.
From the WaPo article (excerpted):
The Mexican staging area for illegal aliens that New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson demanded this week be bulldozed is among hundreds of similar sites along the border sponsored and maintained by the Mexican government. Many of the sites are marked with blue flags and pennants to signal that water is available. Others, such as the Las Chepas site that Mr. Richardson denounced, are a collection of old, mostly abandoned buildings or ranch houses where illegals gather for water and other supplies -- sometimes bartering with smugglers, or "coyotes," for passage north.
Las Chepas, law-enforcement authorities said, also is a center for drug smugglers looking to move marijuana and cocaine into the United States.
Rafael Laveaga, spokesman for the Mexican Embassy in Washington, yesterday said his government "has a duty and obligation by law to protect Mexican citizens at home and abroad."
He said record high temperatures in the desert areas south of New Mexico and Arizona this year had resulted in the death of many illegal aliens.
"We try to spread the word on the dangerous conditions these people will face in the desert, along with reports of historically high temperatures," he said. "What we are doing is part of an effort to prevent those deaths."
Somewhere on the forum today is a story about two illegals who sued and WON a ranch here in the states. (In TX)
Somewhere here (follow my posts) is a picture of a carnival ride in Southern Mexico. It'll make your blood boil. If not? You've got your head in the sand.
Good for him.
Your duty to them ends when they decide to move out of your country.
Maybe we're being too hard on poor old Vincente. After all, he's just "outsourcing" his country's social service functions to the U.S.
The "open borders" crew will be along shortly to let us know why it is wrong to close these "aid stations".
I goofed...it was in AZ, NOT Texas.
"Mexico" - The new Central Africa?
