With the 60th anniversary of Japan's World War II surrender on Monday, Mr. Cruz, who is now 78, and other elderly Guam residents hope American politicians will go beyond solemn speeches and act to compensate them for abuses they suffered under Japan's 32-month occupation.

Why doesn't Japan pay for their abuses?
Could someone please explain to me why the US should be responsible for Japan's actions in WW2?
>A 1951 treaty between the United States and Japan absolved Japan of future individual American war claims, which means American taxpayers would be asked to pay for abuses committed by Japanese soldiers on American nationals on American territory.
Because of this, but ker-ist, it's like being punished for liberating them.
And why would the US compensate anyone for the abuses BY the Japanese?
OK, so let's 'unliberate' them...
Indeed.
GOOD LUCK

We sent our sons to free you. We spent our money to banish the Japanese Death Cult from your island. The intervening 60 years has seen us investing money and time to lift up your backward culture. Your infrastructure would consist of a couple of Gilligan Island contraptions if were not for us.
You thank us by attempted legal extortion. Is that your wonderful culture's traditional "Thank You"?
Could someone please explain to me why the US should be responsible for Japan's actions in WW2?
-----
1. New York Slimes
2. Japan would tell these people to go F*** themselves.
3. America's leftist politicians have a wonderful history of pandering to extort money on behalf of loser voter groups.
Last I checked, I haven't abused any residents of Guam lately. Why should I pay them?
I'd post something but I'm just speachless (wordless)
Which does not say that Japan cannot choose to do the honorable thing and recompensate survivors for a decade of torture, rape, pillage, and murder...
Honorable people, my butt.
Repudiate the 1951 Treaty and squeeze the Japs for compensation.
Just....damn. lol.
The man is an idiot.
Did these apparent bozos even ASK the Japanese?
If the US pays, it needs to fund it with a special
assessment tax ...
... on Guam.
Could someone other than someone from the lib-vomitorium tell me just how we, WE who were attacked by the Japanese, are responsible for Guam being occupied by the Japanese?
Yeah. This makes about as much sense as asking Guam to compensate us for Pearl Harbor.
