Dagnabit... they would have to snap the satellite picture of my house on the day I was skinny dipping in the backyard.

Everyone should get the Keyhole Community BBS plug-in for Google Earth. Not sure of the download location at the moment, but search for it. It adds a whole new dimension to an already great piece of software.

Go to Washington DC and you'll notice the roofs of key buildings have been blocked out. Or go to Cheyenne Mountain (home of NORAD) and one side of the mountain isn't displayed.

Some stuff is classified, even on Google Earth.

If you look at Iraq you will find huge black smudges. It took me a while before I realized that it was smoke from the oil that saddam burned in pits.

I finally have proof that my neighbor's dog is crapping in my back yard. There he is, plain as day! Thanks!

For more map types (and a more cool default earth pic) check out:

http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/

A 180 MB download, but each Map App (google and worldwind) has its pros and cons.

Mapquest used to have aerial views of their map searches available. Somehow they disappeared after 9/11. This stuff is nothing new.

Google had this out a while ago (last year). I looked up my nieghborhood and realized the pictures were a few years old.

Doesn't this scare anyone one bit?

Isn't this an invasion of privacy?

I still like NASA's World Wind. Hubby has that on the computer but I have to have him here to show me how to get to our house. We saw just about every detail of our street, neighborhood, the farm in the middle of the city, etc. It is amazing.

They had a news story about this last night and how the military is nervous about this. Enemies can use this feature to see where planes are, where barracks are, monitoring movement of personnel and equipment, etc.

It's probably slower because it replaced your cache and it's reloading all the information from scratch. Increase the size of your cache, too. You can now make it as big as 2000 MB.

It is cool. I had occasion to make a scenic drive last month and some of the turns weren't real obvious. So I loaded up the route and turned the viewing angle down and did a dry run on the 'puter. It probably saved me at least one wrong turn and it turned out to be eerily similar to the real thing.

The resolution in my area isn't as good as it might be, but it's still pretty amazing.

Well, I'm running Win98, so it won't work on my computer. Too bad.
