True, but while I (and anyone) can understand why the Dems on the committee would want to cover this stuff up, what did the Republicans like Lehman---a pretty straight shooter---have to gain by allowing this to be swept under the rug?

Lehman had no knowledge of this according to Weldon nor did Rohmer. He said both men were livid they were not told anything about this.

what did the Republicans like Lehman---a pretty straight shooter---have to gain by allowing this to be swept under the rug? That, to my mind, is one of the most interesting questions.

I agree with you about Lehman...but what if he never saw the info to begin with?

I dunno, but when he asked former FBI Director Louis Freeh about possible middle eastern involvement and the work of Jayna Davis, he let Freeh off the hook when he said "He'd never heard of it".
No follow ups were asked!

"what did the Republicans like Lehman---a pretty straight shooter---have to gain by allowing this to be swept under the rug?" Lehman went on my "lazy lamebrain list" during the Commission. I see no reason why he should be removed from it.

Good morning.
"...what did the Republicans like Lehman---a pretty straight shooter---have to gain by allowing this to be swept under the rug?"
None of the political class wants to see the apple cart upset.
They will posture and make small noises but none of them, from either side, will do anything that might put the political class at risk.
I think the vast majority of them have forgotten the words of the Declaration of Independence.
