Can teams still fire their cannons after they score?
To: WestTexasWend
I think they can. I seem to remember it last year.

Can teams still fire their cannons after they score?Unfortunately, that'll probably only be an issue for the Sooners...

"Can teams still fire their cannons after they score?" The way things are going, dont be surprised if they cease keeping track of the scores..... Cant have a loser....

Good thing they changed it. Now people won't think they really are having a shoot out. (Of course attendance will probably drop when they now realize it is just a football game.)

I can't figure out why Oklahoma and Texas want to play in an old obsolete stadium in a rough part of Dallas.

Hmmm... I thought it was called "The Shutout", not "The Shootout".

Next thing you know, they'll take the "cocktail" out of "The World Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" because they don't want the Georgia-Florida game to be associated with alcohol.

Mississippi State and Ole Miss play the "Egg Bowl" every year. Surely someone, somewhere, is offended.

Will they even keep score, as that might hurt the feelings of the one who isn't winning?

At the statesman.com, where the story originates, there is a voting poll assessing fan sentiment about the change. Ninety percent preferred the old name, "Red River Shoutout." Anybody can check in and vote.
Obviously it is the corporate wimps at Southwestern Bell who are driving this change. If I were a SWB customer, I would call them and voice my displeasure at their meddling with a great tradition.
GO SOONERS!

Southwestern Bell has re-upped its $$ sponsorship of the annual Texas-Oklahoma showdown in Dallas. And it has changed the name slightly of what used to be the SBC Red River Shootout. For the next three years, the game will be called the SBC Red River Rivalry.So...I guess now...it's the "Rivalry at the OK Corral"?
To: WestTexasWend
I certainly hope so. I'm more worried that they'll come after Okla. States Pistol Pete.....
