From friends at ABC; Peter Jennings is near death. This is unconfirmed, but from usually reliable sources.
The ABC anchor, who was born in Canada but became a US citizen, announced a few months ago that he was suffering from lung cancer. He has not made a televised appearance since.
Agreed. As much as I disagree with his politics, I hate to see anyone go through that.
Prayers for hope.
That was my thought, too. Sorry to hear he has to go out this way. Prayers for Jennings, and his family.
>Heavy smoker?
Stopped years ago, but began again post-9/11
Prayers for him and his family.
Amen.
IIRC He was a heavy smoker that after several attempts finally was able to quit.
All politics aside, he is a fine broadcaster and has had a long and interesting career (starting out as a sort of Canadian Dick Clark!) Prayers for him.
Let me second that prayer. Absolutely beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes.
I thought he seemed more decent than Dan Blather, whatever his politics are. Prayers for him.
This is sad. I was hoping he would recover. My prayers are with him and his family.
If you smoke, quit. If you don't, don't start.
Prayers and hope for Mr. Jennings and his next of kin.
It wasn't often that I agreed with Jennigs as to his world view, but he in my mind was a great broadcast journalist insofar as his style and delivery was concerned.
A shame, really. We're all so much more fragile than we want to accept. Really, just another Canuck trying to make it big in The States. And he did.
Prayers up.
I hate to compare Peter Jennings with Edward R. Murrow but ....
I agree with you in this heartfelt prayer. May the Lord Jesus have mercy and give peace and a new birth to his soul.
He told me a lot of news, over the years! He reminds me of the days before 24-hour-a-day news... when there actually was a news hour. And Breaking News actually broke into other programs... not just other news.
Very upsetting. If true, I hope the good Lord has been able to fill him with peace. Jennings is an intelligant man and to come to grips with this, must have been difficult. My prayers have been with him since the first announcement and will continue for him and his family.
All those "In Search of the Gospel" documentaries he did....hope that at some level he ignored the bulk of the people he put on those shows and focused on the Gospel itself.
...[t]hroughout his treatment, Jennings has stayed involved with World News Tonight, planning and critiquing the newscast when he's feeling up to it. But he hasnt been in the office since May 23, and there's still no word on when he might return...
