Turkey detains 10 over suspected Al-Qaeda plot on Israeli ships (cruise ships)

ISTANBUL (AFP) - Turkish police have detained 10 people suspected of links to the Al-Qaeda extremist network and of plotting attacks on Israeli cruise ships in southern Turkey, security sources said.
The suspects, one of them a Syrian, were detained several days ago in the Mediterranean province of Antalya, home to some of Turkey's most popular resorts, which attract millions of foreign tourists each year, said the sources, who requested anonymity.
They were believed to be planning to attack Israeli cruise ships on behalf of Al-Qaeda, they said.
Israel's counter-terrorism unit Monday warned Israeli holidaymakers to avoid a strip of Turkey's Mediterranean coast between the resorts of Alanya and Kemer, in Antalya province, citing credible intelligence of a potential attack.
On Friday, Israeli authorities ordered four Israeli cruise ships scheduled to dock in Alanya to change course to Cyprus for fear of a possible attack.
The sources said the Syrian suspect, identified only by his initials, N.S., has been taken to to Istanbul and for questioning by anti-terror police in connection with suicide bombings that killed 63 and wounded hundreds others in Istanbul on November 15 and 20, 2003, and blamed on a local Al-Qaeda cell.
The NTV news channel reported that the police had detained at least 10 people linked to Al-Qaeda, among them the Syrian who was allegedly collecting information on Israeli ships travelling to Turkey and on synagogues in the country.
The Syrian, who was carrying forged identity documents, was planning an attack on Israeli ships, the channel said.
CNN probe finds weak link in air security

(snip)
And for three straight days, outside Chicago's busy O'Hare International Airport, at the U.S. Postal Service Chicago International/Military Service Center, CNN found gates unlocked and wide open, and open containers left at the side of the road. CNN correspondent Drew Griffin was able to walk right up to the containers with a camera rolling. No one stopped him to ask what he was doing.
Two weeks later, CNN returned to the same facility, and again found the gates unlocked and open for anyone to walk or drive through. Some cargo containers once again were left unattended and open by the side of the road.(snip)
Well, I don't want you to be killed and I'm sure you would be a plus for our military no matter what position they asked you to serve in.
Thanks Cindy.
Believe me, I don't want to be killed either. But I would gladly trade my life for someone with a family here at home.
Some of these guys have pulled more than 3 tours in Iraq.
To the contrary, you have family right here who will be behind you every step of the way. :-)
You sir are a great American.

Jihadist Forum Member Questions Why Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri Omitted Qatar from his Threats, and Another Member Issues Warning of the Opening Door of Jihad
By SITE Institute
August 10, 2005
A recent discussion amongst members of a password-protected al-Qaeda affiliated message board concerns Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiris video message from August 4, 2005, and his alleged aversion to mentioning Qatar in his threats, and that countrys suspicious agreements. The author questioning Zawahiri also asks if perhaps this omission was due to mutual benefits between the sheikh and al-Jazeera Channel, or mere stupidity and ignorance. Members who replied are condemnatory of such allegations and though the message was ultimately closed, another member took the opportunity to include a warning to several groups of people that the jihad door will be opened for everybody.
The member issuing the warning states that those who have money in banks should withdraw it during the warning period, people who work in singing and theaters and manufacture tobacco or alcohol products should quit their jobs, and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should remove himself from power. Further, this author believes that oil money and proceeds from the Suez Canal should be distributed across the Muslim people, from an infant to a grown-up man, and prays that Allah will replace Mubarak with someone possessing the same qualities as a caliphate. He alleges that this warning period is to last from the night of August 17th through August 20th.
