Important thread to read about the computer virus that has hit many of the MSN computers and some government offices today... still going on..
BurbankKarl says we should all fill our gas tanks......NOW!
Could this be the start of the next wave of attacks? Bring down government military and local police and firfirghter systems once down then we are venerable to an attack with no way to communicate except phones which are run by computer as well.
That photo is heartwrenching
That is a very important story. Excerpt from the article at your link:
Detectives discovered bulletproof vests and "jihadist" materials not readily available via the Internet, authorities said. Also found were the addresses of locations including the National Guard facilities, two synagogues, the Israeli Consulate and the El Al Israel Airlines ticket counter at Los Angeles International Airport.
Law enforcement sources say other recovered documents suggest that particular dates including Sept. 11 may have been selected for terrorist attacks.
Ive been debating all day 'bout this! I have 3/4 tank fulls on both vehicles. I'm outta here! Thanks RR and BbK
Thanks for the heads up Kyla.

"Zotob worm hits Windows users"
Published: August 15, 2005, 4:30 AM PDT
By Reuters
ARTICLE SNIPPET: ""The latest virus drops a copy of itself into the Windows system folder as BOTZOR.EXE and modifies the system's host file in the infected user's computer to prevent the user getting online assistance from antivirus web sites, Trend Micro added.
It can also connect to a specific Internet relay chat server and give hackers remote control over affected systems, which can be used to infect other unpatched machines in a network and slow down the network performance."
Police arrest sex offender with Molotov cocktails at Roosevelt soup kitchen
(08/16/05) ROOSEVELT - A Level 3 sex offender was arrested for allegedly carrying two Molotov cocktails into a Roosevelt soup kitchen.
Police say 31-year-old Kieth Pendarvis, of Roosevelt, went to the Harvest of the World Soup Kitchen on Pleasant Avenue Monday with the explosives in his bag. Joanna Bell-Richards, who runs the soup kitchen, says the bag was leaking gasoline. According to police, when she opened it she found the explosives.
Pendarvis was supposed to be arraigned on weapons charges and for failing to register as a sex offender Tuesday. That hearing, however, was delayed so he could undergo a psychological evaluation at Nassau University Medical Center.

Why should we "fill our gas tanks...NOW?"
Did I miss something while my husband was on the roof?
See post no. 1709.
I agree.
This is important.
Thanks to Velveeta for that heads up on that article.
This needs to be added to TM:
NYTimes - Officer Says Pentagon Barred Sharing Pre-9/11 Qaeda Data With F.B.I. (Able Danger)
New York Times (excerpt) ^ | August 16, 2005 | PHILIP SHENON
Excerpt -
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 - A military intelligence team repeatedly contacted the F.B.I. in 2000 to warn about the existence of an American-based terrorist cell that included the ringleader of the Sept. 11 attacks, according to a veteran Army intelligence officer who said he had now decided to risk his career by discussing the information publicly. The officer, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, said military lawyers later blocked the team from sharing any of its information with the F.B.I.
Colonel Shaffer said in an interview that the small,
highly classified intelligence program known as Able Danger
had identified by name the terrorist ringleader, Mohammed Atta, as well three of the other future hijackers by mid-2000, and had tried to arrange a meeting that summer with agents of the F.B.I.'s Washington field office to share the information.
But he said military lawyers forced members of the intelligence program to cancel three scheduled meetings with the F.B.I. at the last minute, which left the bureau without information that Colonel Shaffer said might have led to Mr. Atta and the other terrorists while the Sept. 11 plot was still being planned.
"I was at the point of near insubordination over the fact that this was something important, that this was something that should have been pursued," Colonel Shaffer said of his efforts to get the evidence from the intelligence program to the F.B.I. in 2000 and early 2001.

This is something I read elsewhere. Have no idea if it's something to worry about. Apparently the computer virus will strike tomorrow, and the gas pumps may not work.
Ok, well see post no. 1709 for info.
From what I've read the "ZOTOB" virus may affect gas pumps tomorrow.
Don't know how valid it is..........but I would rather have a full tank than have to worry about it.
Did you get your dearly beloved off the roof yet?
Wed Aug 17, 2005 12:20 AM BST SEATTLE (Reuters) - An unidentified software virus was being blamed for computer system outages on Tuesday at ABC News, CNN and the New York Times, as computer security companies tried to pin down the cause of the disruption.
CNN, breaking into regular programming, reported on air that personal computers running Windows 2000 at the cable news network were affected by a worm that caused them to restart repeatedly.
Over the last week, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and security companies warned of a new worm, called "Zotob," that could allow an attacker to access PCs by exploiting a recently discovered flaw in Windows 2000.
But security software company McAfee Inc. and Microsoft said that they did not see any heightened activity from Zotob on Tuesday...
>> BurbankKarl says we should all fill our gas tanks......NOW! <<
Done.
Not sure this zotob worm could shut down the gas pumps, but EVERYTHING runs via computers these days. If this thing gets away from us it could have catastrophic consequences.
It could also be cover for something more sinister.
Yes saw it as an ex-programmer I understand the ramifications of these virus's. Thanks for the heads up
