The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Was Bomber's "New York" Shirt A Message?
Full Story

It's hardly a unique fashion statement for a mass transit rider: a Yankees-style cap, and a "New York" sweat shirt.

But the New York Police Department is teaming with British authorities to determine whether those items were worn by suspects in the London terror cases to send a "purposeful message" to the city, according to an NYPD officials.

David Cohen, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence, raised the concern earlier this week at a security briefing for business leaders at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

This entire report seems rather ominous. I'm not liking the mention of opening the jihad door either.

A quick google brings up things like this:

"If they open the 'Baab Al Jihad' (Door of Jihad), and issue a call to fight for freedom, everyone will go. We will all go to restore the dignity of Arab countries."

>> your site is compromised by somebody who wants what you've got <<

Thanks Ex. Never thought of that. Was planning on traveling at night so as not to be seen.

On the plus side, this place is home to some of my friends who are nicely armed and monitor the place 24x7. They would have the place secured already. All I have to do is get there.

And if my friends have been 'compromised', the folks doing the compromising would not know I'm en route. Makes me a wild card if you will.

I will incorporate your accurate and valuable advice into my plans. Will creepy-crawl into the site, of course will work out signals with my friends so they don't end up shooting me. Signals will include no response means bad trouble.

I've hunted this area since I was a kid. I could navigate the place without light on a moonless, cloudy night.

Thanks again Ex for pointing out flaws in my plans. Please continue to do so. This is my (and my friends) survival on the line.

Plan for the worst. Pray for the best.

All I have to do is get there.

I could navigate the place without light on a moonless, cloudy night.

Well, as they say: getting there is half the fun...

Dark and moonless is good, defeats nightvision, but not IR. Although if you have the equipment, IR can be detected while starlight cannot. If you're good enough to know the area that well are your friends that good as well?

IF they are, you might suggest reconning the area all around your site for ambush sites (for YOU to use) and to check for traffic of any sort, be it the cross country granola crunching camper (liberals won't be armed and won't be behaving in sneak and peek mode) or an individual or group on a mission. Look for discarded food wrappers, they'll last awhile and yet you should be able to discern the degree of freshness. Most folks don't know enough to police up their waste products and that gives away their presence.

What I'm suggesting here is to format yourselves into a patrol group and practice conducting operations. Get used to working together and develop hand signals. Operate in inclement weather because movement is covered by the noise rain makes in the woods. Rain is the best (tactical) friend of every infantryman, even though we hate it too. A good heavy rainstorm can even make it tough to figure out from which direction shots are being fired and don't forget this can work in favor of the bad guys, too!

If one does report suspicions, does anything happen? Do they acknowledge?

What if one is in a capital city, and people with cameras appear to be innocently photographing 'architecture' or 'historical sites'?

I believe, more and more every day, that Kulick was correct: People forget (now) their true feelings during, and after 9/11.

The acrimony and hatred for GW Bush and the war on terror is beginning to become deafening, despite what we all endured emotionally. I thought about this today during a broadcast on talk radio. It was the release of the audio tapes (publicly) of that day's events.

Already forever etched in my mind were people who had to choose to jump out of skyscrapers, knowing the consequences of doing so, rather than burning to death inside the buildings.

If that is not enough, the audio tape today which is the most poignant, is the person who calls by cell phone saying they are underneath a fire engine or rescue vehicle near ground zero, begging for assistance. The person is begging for immediate assistance, relaying that they are becoming unable to breathe. The report is that this person was never actually identified, and is presumed dead (suffocation from gas, dust and debris).

Somehow, there is a 'disconnect' however. In the minds of some, 9/11 did not happen, should be minimized as an incidental event, or was not actually related to the war on terrorism.

Call the FBI closest office and tell them. They are under no obligation and generally WOULD NOT EVER follow up with you. Our job is to help them by reporting suspicious events/people .. their job is to follow up on tips and to keep US safe. They owe us no answer or follow-up. I've done it several times when situations warranted. I never received nor expected a follow-up from them .. that's a waste of their time.

You're doing your public duty to report something like the photo taking .. no matter how innocent it may seem, if it strikes you as odd and is synch with our known enemies, just do it .. you never know what you may be preventing. Our crime fighters just can't be everywhere all the time.

For tracking the price of gold in as real time as you can get it on the web... I use http://www.kitco.com/

As for buying it.. most of what I buy I get from local dealers or from gun shows when they have a coin dealer there.
