JERUSALEM (AP) -- A passenger on an Israeli bus opened fire on Thursday, killing three people, an Israeli police spokesman told Channel 2 TV, in an apparent argument among passengers. Five other people were wounded. The TV report said the gunman, in an Israeli army uniform, was captured by police. The gunfire erupted as the bus was on a road in Israel's north near the town of Shfaram. The spokesman told Channel 2 that the gunman was a soldier, three people were killed and several others wounded, and the gunman was captured. Channel 2 said the incident was not a terror attack.

There are some serious crazies in the settler population.
Sounds like one to me.
Israeli media are confirming that it was a settler.
There are some serious crazies in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Dallas as well. I don't think that you can generalize the actions of one man to the hundreds of thousands of Jews who live peacefully in those areas.
Also, remember that we don't even know who the shooter is or whether this was a terrorist attack. Initial reports said that it stemmed from an argument on a bus.
Sorry, but there a higher than baseline population of homicidal paranoid psychotics among the settlers.
If you lived in a community outside of the US comprised of people who had given up on their country you would hear about a coming civil war here as well.
I don't see how anyone can generalize in good faith from one unprecedented attack to a condemnation of the hundreds of thousands of Jews who live peacefully in the West Bank and Gaza. Moreover, we don't even know the facts of the attack yet. It may turn out to be something different from what you are assuming.
Sorry, I must have missed that study. Would you mind posting the link, please?
Thanks in advance.
Jewish soldier shoots, kills 3 in bus in Arab Israeli town
By Israel Insider staff and partners August 4, 2005
Around 5:30 pm, a Jewish soldier from the settlement of Tapuach wearing a kippah opened fire inside an Egged bus #165 in the northern town of Shfaram.
3 passengers were killed and 6 wounded. The shooter was arrested by police, who tried to protect him from an enraged mob.
Paramedics had a hard time reaching the scene due to the mob surrounding the bus.
Only 5 or 6 policemen are reportedly protecting the shooter from the mob, Channel 2 reported. There are unconfirmed reports from an eyewitness that the shooter was lynched.
The dead including the bus driver, an adult passenger, and a youth.
I have a feeling that I am about to take a bit of a massive sh*t sandwich by weighing in on this, but it seems to me that one of the primary causes of ridiculous violent behavior is idleness. We see it in the Arabs who have nothing to do but sit around in the sand, and we see it in gangs in the inner city who have nothing to do but sit around all day.
Isreal's subsidizing the radicals who don't work, but rather sit around all day with their pals in the religious schools is going to come back to haunt them.
People who have to work, take care of kids, make food, etc. don't have time to fill their heads with crazy thoughts, and also understand better the consequences of their actions.
Fascinating...you were able to cull this information from where? Perhaps a link?
Nobody is "generalizing" here. The information I posted about the prognosis the former Israelis gave me about the country was based on a long-running conversation that actually began in 1993.
the shooter is Settler Idan Zoberi, 19 yrs old soldier defector.... WHat side are you on?
Why do you not believe that he is a Jew who lives in the West Bank? Preliminary news accounts identify him as a specific individual who lives in Tapuach.
Former_ACLU IS 100% correct. Lots of these settlers are insane. It is high time for them to pull out, and start heeding the wishes of Sec'y of State Rice. I am weary of these idiots doing their best to subvert President Bush.
You are welcome in advance.
