Martha is my favorite Capitalist. I'm sure she knew what she did was wrong, but I'm just as sure that in her heart of hearts she feels that she provides a needed service in this world (billions in sales can't be wrong) and that she's getting a teensy bit antsy to get off the ropes and make some more cash for her stockholders...such as moi!

It IS summer, for Pete's Sake. I'm sure she was just off-roading to gather wild nuts and twigs or something for an upcoming issue of her magazine. ;)

Yes, but that's the very point I was making. Compare those two 'horrible' violations to the terrorists, illegals and sexual perverts we have running amok on our streets.

I like Martha's shows and I'm not afraid to admit it. I don't care what her politics are.

She was caught going to yoga classes - NOT ALLOWED.

She is allotted a certain amount of time per week (I think) to take care of her business (attend a meeting, etc.) - go to the dentist - go to the doctor - that's it.

From my expierience in this field, she was most likely caught violating the terms of her home confinement by the probation officer. He called her in, confronted her with the allegation, and told her that she could either sign a waiver extending the home confinement OR he would take her back to court and she would risk having her supervision revoked and be sent back to the big house (for a term longer than 3 weeks I assure you). Wisely, it looks like Martha decided to sign the waiver and be done with it.

That's kind of what I thought as well.

Although, it still annoys me that they waste all this time and money on her because she was driving on her own property. It's not as though she was in Aspen or Palm Beach. And Yoga, yep that's really setting a bad example for everyone.

Yep-"rules is rules", and you have to apply them to everyone. That being said, If she was one of my cases (and NOT a national celebrity) I would have just tore her a new one and been done with it (home detention and electronic monitoring are pains in the keister for the officer-the LAST thing you want to do is EXTEND someone!). The moral of the story (for Martha, but it applies to anyone) is this: If you're going to violate supervision, DON'T HAVE YOUR PICTURE IN THE PAPER DOING IT!

No. That costs too much money (that I don't want to pay for). Prisoners should be classified according to the level of danger they present and they should be housed in facilities that are consistent with that danger. Placing a person who writes bad checks in a SuperMax facility is just ridiculous.

There will be fraud. But the Ebbers and Stewart convictions will stick in this generations' mind. Many will not go beyond the red line because in the back of their minds they know the government does crack down.

The next generation will need more lessons. They won't know these people.
