I don't know if there are more than your 5 conservatives, but I suspect so. I'll welcome you and if you need any tips, or stuff, I would be glad to help.

I'm also a conservative in Los Angeles. We are indeed a rare breed. I can't tell you how many dinners I've had that ended in terrible arguments. And this after I pleaded, no politics please....

At this point I'm on survival mode, when it comes to talking politics with liberals out here. I don't do it. They see reality differently.

We need you.. with you, that will make 10 of us in Los Angeles.

Countless new planned communities have been developed since you were here. Many of the really bad neighborhoods have been squeezed into pockets or inland.

That's the advice I was given from a guy at church back when there was a chance I had to move there. He said it cost him a fortune to get his out of state cars licensed there. But I could be wrong.

Whatever else it may be, California is beautiful. I loved visiting the state when my brother was based in Sacramento.

California needs more conservatives (I guess Jersey does too).

How much of a culture shock can it be?

LOL. You'll see. For one thing, California allows you to pump your own gas!

Choose San Diego if you can afford it. Buy your vehicle out here. Don't worry about earthquakes......worry about liberals. Don't travel in groups of less than ten in L.A.

And get a 'Club' security device for your car ...

And learn how to beat somebody to death with it and carry it with you for protection because you probably can't get a concealed carry permit.

San Diego is the town God made on a Good day. It is the only place where the scenery makes drastic changes no matter what direction you may go. We have the ocean for those into the surfing scene, mountains for those that enjoy hiking and camping, deserts for those that enjoy off roading and camping and Mexico for those that enjoy the international thing. In the winter, you can experience many seasons at the same time. San Diegans are very friendly and make those from out of state feel right at home.

If you have a choice, choose San Diego. It's a much, much nicer place to live than the L.A. basin.

I lived in Southern California until last November, and then I moved to a small city in the east. I really don't like it where I am, but it's where I can afford to live right now :-(.

Orange County is the place to be if you can stand the fact that you'll live in swathes of cookie cutter housing, even if you pay half a million dollars or more for your house.

It's slick, ultra-modern and beautiful. The commercial infrastructure is best in the world. Surface streets with more lanes than freeways in the east coast, with rivers of cars to match, will amaze you.

Great, friendly service in stores with pretty upbeat people everywhere will delight you. People are cynical about life in California but they don't have the pinched resentful look I see in the East.

The cost of housing will horrify you. That's the huge downside. Only move if you expect a really, really nice income.

I would move to Texas or Florida if you want to be with more conservatives. California has a large hispanic minorit that tends to be glum and resigned to their fate. I much prefer the Cubans in Florida who are fun and industrious. Florida housing costs are also lower, but alas they are rising fast too.

Hope that helps; if you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

D

New Jersey and the east coast are dying - horrible weather, horrible statists, headed into an economic death spiral. They are becoming Europe. There are plenty of conservatives in San Diego, which is much nicer than LA (except Orange County, which is still a pretty good place). Forget the horror stories about housing costs, illegals, and liberalism. If you have a chance to get a job in San Diego, make the move. You'll never regret it.

And they're both very different from what's known as "Spanish Spanish."
