Well, how come people never make Labs or Goldens mean?

It's in the breed, and I wish Pit Bull and Rott owners would just face it.

There's a black lab down the street from me that attacks pretty much everybody that goes by the house. And their pets, too.

Creeps are attracted to some breeds based on mythology.

I thought that deserved a repeat.

They do. I've been bitten by a lab. You can't condemn a whole breed, (or race for that matter) because some of them are vicious.

PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DEALING WITH WHEN THEY GET A DOG,

I've done Australian Shepherd rescue and it AMAZES me the people that get rid of them because they "chase my kids around and bite their ankles"..

You may be right. I have know Rotties that are just the nicest things on earth, pit bulls too, but those have been raised by loving owners who treat them gently and raise them to be "soft". On the other hand, I have seen some dogs being abused daily to make them "mean", how the owners want them. You can make any dog mean, but I believe you may be correct, that this tendency does vary by breed, and rotties, pitts, and some small dogs like maybe some Yorkies can get very mean and aggressive. The yorkies, being fairly small, aren't such a big deal, but a Rottie or a Pitt is another thing altogether..

ahem... you've surely heard the phrase, "Never say never" right?

One of my son's playmates was attacked by a black lab two years ago and he still has more rounds of reconstructive surgery to go - thank God the thing only got his legs!

I've personally owned two black labs over the years and believed them to be the sweetest breed on the planet, but then I heard about Dillon and realized no breed is exempt from the animal status.

Rumor has it the people who owned the dog were getting divorced and both had left the dog alone in their house for extensive periods of time. Dillon just had the bad luck of walking past the house at the same time someone happened to be letting the dog out.

People are responsible for the actions of their dogs whether it is a poodle or a rottie. I have a friend who was attacked by a black lab 3 weeks ago. She had known this dog since it was a puppy. It bit her in the face she had 85 stitches and plastic surgery. She will be needing more surgery over the next few years. This story did not make the news but if it had been a pit or a rott it would have been the lead story

Agree with you..My friend acquired a golden retreiver that had been beaten and abused by his former owner...The dog is a huge baby..Not a mean bone in his body but,he is scared to death of hoses and brooms[The objects he was beaten with]This dog had been abused for 3 years before my friend got him..He is the sweetest dog there is..You beat a rotty or pit bull and I'll bet they are ready to tear the neck off the next owner...

"Well, how come people never make Labs or Goldens mean? "

That is total BS. I grew up with a Lab Retriver mix that was naturally hostile to other dogs and certain people.
Any dog bread can be a problem. Especially those with a tendancy to be loyal.

The problem with Rotties are the idiots who live vicarously through their dogs. It isn't so much "making" them mean, but seeing them as a weapon.

I knew a mean white Lab. Thankfully, not the one I have.
I also know a Rottweiller and a pit bull who are very nice dogs. The Rottie and the pit are my neighbors' dogs and love to play with my Lab.
We also have some neighborhood brats who think it's fun to tell my kids that the pit (we all have chain link fences, so can see into each other's yards) has been in our yard trying to kill our Lab. My kids know it's silly, since the pit and my lab are best friends who like to play. The pit has even shared his food.
