Roadside bomb in western Iraq.
Rapidly advancing on the 19th century!
Taco Cabana called and wondered where you'd been.
We told them you were still waiting on the last order
and needed more fresh guacamole...sit tight...it's coming :o)
I am sooooooo ready for R&R!
Do you have any idea how proud of you the Texas folks are?
Thank you ever so much for the reports from Iraq.
We want daily reports from any R&R you get...
:o)
Thanks Allegra
I might be able to pop on to FR once or twice on R&R. But I'll be in the UK running around and having fun and will not be bringing the laptop.
If something happens while I'm there (yes, I'll be spending a few days in London) I'll make every effort to get online and check in.
I'm hoping for the sake of the Brits that nothing will happen. I'm sure they're very fed up with it all.
Glad you all had a good time and a little relief.
Contentious is as good a word as any, I reckon. ;*)
You just can't get through to some.
I'll be blurry eyed myself if I don't get some sleep soon. Goodnight. Happy day after your birthday! ;*)
And then what? Have you considered the possibility that many of our "boys and girls" would even want to come home? What if they just want to stay over there and finish their job? What if they don't want to have to go back over there in a few years, have their children or other young people have to go back and finish the job, or have to fight these lunatics on our soil?
Haven't you been reading what several have been saying on here about Vietnam, or what happened after the troops were forced to leave? Many of them felt that there was "unfinished" business! Many of them were sad and bitter, because they were forced to abandon the fight when victory was at hand!
Do you ever wonder why there are actually a number of Vietnam vets over there now, helping to fight along with the younger ones? And of those that aren't, many are back here supporting those that are, so they won't have to face the crap that they had to face! (I've been reading all about that, right in the "VFW" magazine, especially!)
I say, lets let them stay, and get the job done! Then they can come home, and come home to the honor and appreciation of most of their fellow Americans, and with pride in the victory they can obtain, and the respect they, and their fallen comrades deserve, ok?
On an added note, what about our allies who are with us still; and there are still quite a number of them? Have you, and others who think we should just pull out, actually thought about them? If we were to pull out, we would be leaving those still-loyal allies out there swinging in the wind! They depend on us, and we on them! They would begin to say that we just can't hack it! They would begin to think we are cowardly, and can't be relied on!
And then there are the Iraqi people themselves. If we were to just "pull out" our forces, how would they, the Afghans, or others, ever trust us again? A lot of them wanted us and some allies to come in. Oh sure they couldn't just say so! But they reportedly did! Should we just up and desert them? I should say not! Just think of that! We wouldn't be able to hold our heads up among them and our allies for a long, long time!
Our armed forces would not be able to hold their heads up either! And all the hard work they did, the victories they won (with much suffering in many cases), could be in peril, if not reversed! Then, their enemies could surely overcome them. Also, they could come over here, and take over us. They wouldn't be too afraid of us, either. Look what happened in Spain! Just think of all this, and then tell me again that we should just "pull out our boys and girls" and bring them home now!

9 Marines from Columbus-based company killed
Most of dead from outside Franklin County
I just wanted you to know I have been thinking about that sentence since I first read it about an hour ago.
I haven't seen you for awhile, how are you doing?..
Good-back in the desert at FOB Bernstein near Tuz Khurmatu (south of Kirkuk, east of Tikrit). Working as evac section chief in a Cav squadron. How's your husband?

Thank you
The Marines who are doing the dirty work in Iraq are "Heroes". They are not victims, we must remember that.
They only want to get the job done now so that their sons and nephews will not have to go back and finish it.
Those who forgets history are doomed to repeat it.
This is part of a new offensive in the River War. See:

Dearest Allegra, you're so, so right. Trying to discuss "what's happening in Iraq" with people who sound like the NYT or CNN is an exercise in futility.
Much more important, is that you don't use the likes of the NYT or CNN to see "what's happening back home"!!!!!
They try to broad brush our military with the taint of a few misfit's and we aren't buying it.
They moan about the financial costs of the war so we elect officials who vote for military pay raises and upgraded military equipment.
They critize every battle strategy and focus on the few that fail, while we celebrate every success you have.
Finally, they try to bait us to just "nuke" whole cities or countries while we see clearly that you and others like you are working as fast and as hard as you can to win the hearts and minds of the local people who need encouragement and time to be trained. You truly are our finest ambassadors and your example is working as more and more Iraqis step up to serve in their army or police even tho they know they will be targeted. Just now, the news is reporting some sad news of more Iraqi police deaths from the terrorists.
All across the US, your fellow citizens are very aware that we are in a real war with the terrorists, and we want our troops to know that they are supported and appreciated. We are so humbly grateful that you volunteered to take the fight to the enemy, and our hearts ache each time a member of our military makes the ultimate sacrifice or is wounded in this war. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.
love, grandma mac
I am honored to be working in connection with our armed forces on this mission and no armchair general is big enough to make me feel any differently about that.
It's much better now that I've enacted my "Moratorium on Idiots." It's futile to try to explain how things really are to those who seem to have little else but large doses of arrogance as attributes. That type of person never listens to reason because they're too wrapped up in themselves.
I guess I should feel sorry for them as they bluster and strut around like banty roosters. They're so self-absorbed they can't see how they're coming across to reasonable people.
But laughing at 'em is so much more fun. ;-)
