I wonder how Katie Couric will explain this?
"Republicans hate our troops, they see them as cannon fodder for their neocon imperialistic policies," etc etc.

Schmidt was not a great candidate for our side, she is considered a RINO by many
Yeah, I've heard that cannard go around before. "Schmidt is a RINO." "Schmidt is opposed by the Club for Growth."
Maybe Jean's voted for a tax increase as part of an overall budget while in the OH legislature, but she's as pro-life as they come. She was the president of Cincinnati Right to Life and has a great pro-life record as a state rep. I'm pretty happy with her election!

In other words, a little-known Republican defeated a well-funded Democrat who ran as a Republican.Concise, and a good assessment.
I am of two opinions about the Marine running as a conservative RAT. I would like to see the RAT party restored to some semblance of patriotism, but I am even more concerned that anyone wanting to BE a Rat from the military shows that we have some very confused people who are lurking in our military. I have known of extremely liberal Navy people for some time, all the way up through the Admirals ranks, but only a few who were Marines, almost none of them getting to be Generals.
How can you be a Marine and still be a political liberal? [ Big L ] That strikes me as fishy in the extreme...and "rotten to the Corps"....
Was Hackett another John F. Kerry type? Do we have to worry about him in the future here? Perhaps a run at Senate?

There a fourth factor at work: Bob Taft's unpopularity is toxic.

Probably the same crowd on FR who hurled accusations that Norm Coleman and Johnny Isakson were "RINOs". There's from the school of "ANYONE who is nominated besides MY ideal canddiate must be a RINO" school of thought. All the noise they make towards candidates who vote conservative 90% of the time make it harder to ID geninue RINOs (Chris Shays and the like) thanks to overuse of the term RINO.
Hindsight is 20/20 and now it turns out that Johnny Isakson was a GREAT spokesman for Bush's judicial nominations and has consisted voted to the RIGHT of his predecessor (worshipped by the Isakson bashers, CENTRIST Dem Zig Zag Zell)... and Norm Coleman has made such a tredemnous impression for the conservative cause in a short time, being THE pointman for exposing U.N. corruption, as well as being a solid vote for the pro-life cause, family issues, and lower taxes.
Not that their detractors will EVER give these fine gentleman the apology they DESERVE.

With so many RINOs in the GOP, the regular Republican must be a RINO! :P
