I think the Americans themselves often underestimate the contribution the seperation of powers has had to its unstoppable development as a force for good. (And I folks here think the supreme court stinks so I might be on a looser arguing this thread!). Agreed. The genius of the Founding Dads was two fold:
They wrote a constitution assuming that the government would be run by curs, and they set the government up to be at war with itself, instead of the citizens. (The soooooooooopreme court does stink, that's their job right now, the various branches end up taking turns being the stinker)...

I hope Bush doesn't have to attend this funeral. Send Hillary. Bush isn't going. We're sending a delegation. (Please be Hillary!)...

Abdullah did appoint Prince Sultan, who's considered to be the most pro-American of the princes, as crown prince.

Abdullah did appoint Prince Sultan, who's considered to be the most pro-American of the princes, as crown prince. Are you serious? This was what I was waiting to hear. That's what I thought would happen when he resigned as ambassador. This would mean that the good guys have won the battle.

I believe non-Jews can travel only with an approved sponsor or on an approved tour, you can't just travel around Saudi Arabia. That part of your post isn't exactly accurate. I was in the kindom 1980-1981. You could travel freely, unaccompanied, although it may not be considered the wisest course of action, due simply to the environment. Just prior to my arrival, an American couple had gone out to the desert outside of Riaydh, and became stranded for a day or two. They were lucky, as they were searched for, and found in time.
The desert of the Arabian peninsula is a very harsh, unforgiving environment, and must be respected, or the ultimaye price paid...
