IMO Rudy's the one and only repub who would wipe Hillary off the map.
Second amendment is a different matter, but he could beg off on that by punting to the courts. And it really is an issue for the courts.
What are his economic views?
But he is socially VERY liberal and would not be representative of Reagan's legacy nor a majority of Republicans.
My early choice for '08 is George Allen.
As far as Giuliani or any other pro-abortion candidate goes, and I'm sure he would understand this statement even though he does not agree with it....I WILL NOT VOTE FOR TERRORISTS (ABORTIONISTS) OR THOSE WHO SUPPORT TERRORISM (PRO-ABORTION POLITICIANS)!!!
Can anyone deny that abortion is absolutely terrorism to the baby??!
With Roberts on the Court and likely another Conservative before the next President, Abortion, Guns, etc, will be decided without the next President having anything to say about those issues.
Giuliani is a serious Catholic, so to label him as pro-Abortion is ridiculous. When in office he has upheld the law of the land.
A Mayor of New York looks at guns differently then a President.
That he will PUSH or even concern himself- on his volition- in a pro gay marriage stance is absurd.
Of those issues that really matter today, terrorism, North Korea, Iran, energy prices, no one would do better.
He has a proven record of fixing what was said not to be fixable.
Anyone else running, may be handsomer, more charming, say the programmed right things, but are midgets next to Giuliani proven accomplishments..
Reagan was a conservative, not a tough-on-crime liberal.
A twice divorced, Italian-Catholic from NYC? Hell that's more than enough to lose half the blue states right there.
Worthless RINO and the most OVERRATED politician in the US.
And herein lies the problem with party politics. I don't care how he contrasts with another candidate. Do his views represent mine? That is the only question an informed voter should be making in the voting booth. If they don't, I don't vote for them
Of course now I expect the response from party faithful, 'But just think how bad this person or that person would have been'. And that is exactly the opposite thinking that we should have. If you don't agree with a candidate, don't vote for him or her because you're voting against the other candidate. Leave that slot blank or write in someone. Party faithful may call that a wasted vote but it was the intention of the Framers, instead of voting for parties as Washington warned against in 1796
If Rudy got the GOP nomination, I would vote for a third party ticket--that much is for sure.
It isn't about abortion. When Giuliani ran against Hillary he had the same position as her on almost every issue. On abortion, he was just to the left of Hillary.
Giuiliani, Rudolph W., (Mayor NYC)
The New York Times, June 10, 1994, p.A1
I personally like Rudy, but I just can't pull the lever for him. He'd be a great cabinent guy for treasury or HUD, but I can't risk him appointing leftist judges and signing gun grabs and pro-abort laws.
That'll put the fear in Hildebeast ...
Heroics trumps all in politics. Rudy has that elan, post 9-11.
Yes, he's a social liberal. But he's a law and order guy, and he will appoint strict constructionists.
Rudy will be the Republican nominee in 2008, and will mop the floor with Hillary.
Frist, Allen? You don't get your presidents from Capitol Hill. That's so Democrat.
Rudy may win but it won't be with my vote, even if he runs against HillBillary.
If it is him or McCain I vote Rudy. McLame has a losers mentality when it comes to war and will embarass the US somehow in the terror war.
I respect Rudy Guiliani and his bravery. But I will never vote for him under any circumstances. My only possible exception would be if he publicly retracted his pro-abortion, anti-2nd amendment, pro-homosexual marriage views and credited the change to a new insight or Christian conversion.
I hope Rudy runs in the primaries, and loses bigtime, like he should.
