Hey, the Atlas 5 was one azz kicking machine!

I thought it was the Saturn 5? 7 million pounds at liftoff, 7.5 million pounds of thrust. Liftoffs were slow, because it had to burn off some fuel to leave the pad!

Yeah! it burned 15 tons (30 000 pounds) of fuel per second. And it came out at over 5000 miles per hour.

Quite correct. The Atlas 5 is a satellite launch vehicle.




The Saturn 5 was the main heavy lifter for the lunar program.



I watched almost all of those launches. Man, that was a thing of beauty!!
