Victor Davis Hanson: Enough is Enough
Jewish World Review ^ | 7/21/2005 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 07/21/2005 6:07:20 PM PDT by StoneGiant

After the July 7 London bombings, some in the United Kingdom wondered whether the bombing was in retaliation for the British having troops in Iraq. Perhaps, they suggested, a withdrawal, emulating the Spanish appeasement after the March 2004 Madrid bombings, would prevent further attacks.

God, I hope we can now stop hearing "Bringing democracy and a better way of life to the Middle East will stop terrorism!" and "These Muslims need more education and opportunity so they won't decide to be suicide terrorists!!" and "If we fight 'em there, we won't have to fight 'em here!" All of which were shown to be 100% pure crap. The Londoners (hell, the 9/11 assholes too) lived in a free, democratic society. They had plenty of education and opportunity but due to being Islamic still considered and ultimately decided to choose a wasted, loser life of suicide terrorism.

ISLAM MUST REFORM. Without that, this will never end.

And how are we to get reform, without the above strategies? That is what bringing democracy to the middle east is, a strategy for getting Islam to reform. Let us hear your strategy.

I would posit that the strategy that we are following is working quite well, and we should continue it. Yes, it can be improved with stricter border controls, stricter controls on what is said in Mosques, and further restrictions on Saudi money.

But all of that is only an extension of what we are already doing.

Infidels, by virtue of their mere existence, provoke Islamic terrorists into a rage.

That, and Tancredo.

Infidels and Tancredo. It's enough to make any Islamic terrorist weep.

It was the Greeks who conquered all their lands in the B.C.s, probably in response to some of their attacks, but they blame the Crusades and the Christians.

They lost to the Greeks though prior to Christ and the A.D.s.

A threat, and a little test somewhere in a nearby desert might just scare the sunni shiite out of them

Or it might radicalize the vast majority of Moslems who are either neutral or support us.

It'll take salt of the earth like the British 'soccer hooligans' to craft an appropriate response to this menace

I am going to assume that I am misunderstanding this part of your post. If you are, in fact, advocating random beatings of people who appear to be Arab, you do not belong on this site – you do not belong in this country.

"ISLAM MUST REFORM. Without that, this will never end."

Not quite. Rather it's that either Islam reforms or it will be exterminated.

but still we have to deal with the insipid university argument that British and American troops in Iraq "caused" these bombings.

So, if we take that thinking to its logical conclusion, we can say if a woman is raped, it's her own fault, because she was "asking for it."

"rush was saying that reid was angry that rove had dropped off the front page for roberts!"

Yep. I heard/read in several places that the Prez just appointed Roberts to take the heat off of Rove. Then I heard some of the Dims say they weren't going to let it happen and several of them were out today and/or the MSM had stories about Rove. It certainly appears to be a concerted effort to keep the Rove story on the front page.

"this is about the perverted use of the principles of a great world religion, that at its root preaches peace and cooperation".

The problem is the intellectual left never bothered to actually read the Koran, but pontificate pretending wisdom. This pretend wisdom is foolishness, because at its root, Islam clearly teaches militant expansion and terrorism under a cover of fake treaties and false piety.

These western fools, we call our leaders are sheep promising peace with the wolves, and as proof they brag about their dinner invitations.

A. "We" don't get to reform. It's ISLIME that must reform.

B. Iran's a democracy. That doesn't make me feel any safer about them nor has their 1979 democratic revolution brought any stability to the mid east.

C. Christianity didn't need forced democracy to reform. It reformed within itself, thanks to the bravery of Martin Luther.

My strategy? Hmmm....when I'm privvy to the intelligence that the policy makers are, then I'll get back to you with my strategy. I agree with you re: stricter immigration and financial/economical restrictions, but again - Islime itself must choose to reform.

That would certainly solve it, but I don't think the Christian West has the stomach to slaughter over a billion people.

The "Christian" West need not slaughter over a billion people; we need only "chop off the head". I dare say that the vast majority of those billion moslems are illiterate which means that the leadership needs to be "turned", one way or the other.

My fear is that the leadership of the West does not even have the stomach for that. I am not sure that Western leadership has the clear picture yet that this is a continuation of a 1400 year old struggle.

And for those who thin that Islam is a religion of peace, notice the sword on the Saudi Arabian flag. Their mandate is "convert or kill" the infidel. We are all infidels!

Agreed. Someone needs to tell our politically-correct President, I'm afraid.

I hate to be a posting nanny, but have you ever noticed that your keyboard has two big keys on it that (usually) have the label "Shift" on them? Sentences, proper names and the like are supposed to begin with capital letters. This is accomplished through the use of one of the Shift keys in conjunction with the desired caital letter key.

Just in case you didn't know.... ;o)

this habit was formed in the 1980's when the precursor of the internet was darpa.

darpa was developed by the u.s. military. military contractors and universities were allowed access. i began using darpa during my graduate work, and continued when i worked for military contractors.

in the 1980s nerds ran the show. caps didn't make it.

Political Correctness may very well be our un-doing. BTW, I prefer the more accurate term for that malady, namely cultural Marxism.
