What's the big idea? (Bernie Goldberg of Bias fame attacked on air on CNBC by Donny Deutsch)
Wash Times Inside Beltway ^ | 7/20/05 | John McCaslin

Posted on 07/20/2005 11:10:29 AM PDT by Cableguy

Talk about appearing blindfolded before a kangaroo court. Then again, CBS newsman-turned-author Bernard Goldberg might not have recalled before appearing last night on CNBC's "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" that the host was a lead member of the Clinton/Gore communications team in 1992. "I've been doing this a long, long time, and I have never, ever, ever, never -- I could say never and ever 10 more times -- experienced what I just went through," Mr. Goldberg told Inside the Beltway late yesterday after he taped the show, which is to air tonight, from Miami. "Deutsch disagreed with everything, and that is just fine," said Mr. Goldberg, the best-selling author of "Bias" who has written the new book "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (And Al Franken is No. 37)." "But then, unbeknownst to me, they brought on a panel of five, plus Donny, all of whom took the other side. And it's not like they just respectfully disagreed; there was name-calling, ganging up; it was unbelievable. And not one of them even read the book. They admitted it. "It was more than an ambush," he said. "It was the most cynical, dishonest thing I have ever been lassoed into. They misled me." Immediately after the taping, Mr. Goldberg said, he told the show's producer, Marilyn Cutler, that Mr. Deutsch had been "dishonest." "I told her that she should be ashamed," he said. "A short time later, she called back, crying like a baby. She said, 'I am resigning.' And I told her, 'You should resign.' It was one big setup. And they used her to get me into it. They wanted to kick my [expletive] on national television -- six people, all basically calling me an idiot."

It's the Jerry Springer Show circa 2005.

Some people will do anything to get attention and finally win one in their lives!

6 against 1 is hardly a fair fight...he was set up. The left bleats about the lack of balance on Fox, yet they're just fine to pull something like this.

As soon as Roger Ailes gets his business cable network up and running, we won't have to worry about CNBC any more.

Ailes is the guy who built CNBC, btw.

Nawh, jest funnin'.

I've buzzed past his show on the Dish, but so far I haven't seen/heard anything that would hold my interest for more than 20 seconds.

I disagree. I think that many, if not all the people named in Goldberg's book are actively working to ruin America and freedom. I think it's a serious issue.

I think the most serious issue facing America are:

1.) The Islmofascist's war against America and Western civilization.

2.) The hard leftists in the media and universities perfidy, treachery, treason, desire, intent and actions to destroy the freedom and survival of America.

Pardon my paranoia, but to me it's real, it's not just words or news shows or entertainment.

Advertisers/publishers assume ignorance. Also note that Goldberg's latest and Stossel's tome share the same publisher, HarperCollins.

However, Goldberg's previous two books (Bias and Arrogance), neither of which were subtitled, were not published by HarperCollins.

Wow. You need to lower your intake on the assumptions.

I LIKE many commentators. Sean is, as I said, one of my least favorites. Not because he has a show, or has written books - but because he is such a self-promoter about them.

So, since you are asking me to do exactly what I don't like about the baby jesus, I'll respectfully decline.

P.S. I am on a self-imposed sabbatical from book buying until I read all the ones I've bought but haven't read, but I will break it today to buy Bernie's book as a show of support. :) Us bookaholics will say ANYTHING as an excuse to buy more... ;)

You are my brother from another mother!

I once heard some guy on the radio talking about the difference between a bibliophile and a bibliomaniac. He pegged me.

He did it because Franken puts names in his titles. He did it because Franken won't do interviews. He did it to tweak Franken a little bit. But he mostly did it for a joke.

I would love to know if the producer really quits. I doubt it.

Are you a science fiction fan?

If so, you might want to check out Baen's Free Library to further expand your selection of books you don't have time to read. :-) Baen has posted a bunch of their paperbacks on the web for free download. I've been turned on to a few authors through this hook. Just like any pusher of addictive drugs, the first one's free!

"A short time later, she called back, crying like a baby"

That makes two of you. Sounds like a ploy to get the Right all lathered up (and ready to buy his book).

Hannity is a pi$$-poor interviewer and a lukewarm intellect. He gives the liberal viewpoint FAR too much face-time.

His looks are the only reason he is on TV.
