I said basically the same on another thread yesterday. W might as well stick a "mainstream" label on whoever before the MSM tars and feathers them, even if the pick is a conservative. I pray that is the case. This president will have lost me with anything less.

Given that polls now are consistently showing Americans to be more "conservative" than "liberal", he's right: Being Conservative IS mainstream in America.

Of course, sitting here at this liberal university, it is hard to see that.

I agree with you. He's talking "mainstream", but the nominee will be fairly conservative. I think he will choose a conservative woman, but who knows.
