There are many bright, bright kids out there, who no doubt will rise to the top.
But there is also a huge percentage of deadbeat, amoral students, particularly in urban areas, who will be a burden on society because the schools failed them (and because they fail themselves).
There are many problems in society that go beyond the schools. There's too much of a tendency to blame others for our problems, sometimes we lump them all into one entity (the liberals have perfected that craft). Some criminals blame their doings on their upbringing. While there may be some psychological things, for the most part, it is a conscious act BY THE PERSON himself. Being gay is a lifestyle decision for the most part. Having an abortion is still the result of an act by THAT person (the abortion is that person not taking responsibility for his/her action). We can blame others all we want, but again, our lives are the results of our own choices. It's what we make of it that counts.
Besides ourselves, our parents are the biggest influence (or lack of it) on our lives. But after a certain point, WE become repsonsible for our ownselves. Blaming something else for our own shortcomings means we are not looking at ourselves and what we can do to improve.
Stupid question... if this is a union, why is it governemnt sponsored? Does taxpayer money go to other unions? Well, other than paying police and fire salaries, but I mean to the actual unions.
i'd guess it is a union thing...

I just graduated my homeschooled son. I had a public school teacher tell me I shouldn't teach him at home because I lacked the "proper credentials". lol
My son scored way above average on the SAT and was accepted at all four colleges/universities to which he applied. He also received hefty scholarship offers from two of those.
I wonder how it would have turned out had I had the proper credentials? lol
Do they sell Gallo at Walmart? lol
Found it:
>>>>To expose health problems associated with "fragrance chemicals"; (I assume this means perfumes. Another resolution called for designating areas of NEA meetings as "fragrance-free zones."); To fight indoor air pollution (two resolutions)<<<<
Right on girl. Congratulations for making the sacrifices. It will pay off for the rest of your son's life.
We could have a brag fest about our kids, I'll bet.
As far as "credentials" are concerned, it would be tempting to point this out to the teacher. Of entering freshman with declared majors, one of the two majors with the *lowest* average SAT score is....drum roll please.....education. Barely over 900. I won't name the other. Just that they like to sue, and contribute mostly to DIMocrats.
When my daughter entered college [in 2000], her counselor at the college said that he loved home schooled kids.
Best wishes for your son's educational future. You have given him the proper foundation to succeed.
Those outside the education profession don't understand that teachers spend their own time taking coursework for professional development credits in order to be able to renew their certificate. They also fail to understand that teachers spend many hours at home planning and grading. We also must arrange for conferences after school, go to PTA meetings on our own time, etc. Then these people complain about us getting the summer "off," which isn't entirely true either. I have taught summer school the last two years, and worked on my masters this summer. I am not complaining, but I feel that teachers earn their pay and then some.
The sad part is that even if we disagree with the curriculum, we have to do what our supervisors tell us, as does any employee. Most teachers that I know are conservative. College professors are a different story.
Which one's do you consider "so what"?
FWIW-
Thanks Billybob.
My specialty is the Fire Fighter's union. If you ever have any questions feel free to holler at me.
Take care brother!
I'm actively working on alternatives for fire fighters.
We've created a local labor association with a Bill of Rights protecting designed to protect the members.
I believe strongly in political freedom and the RIGHT TO WORK!
All major unions I'm aware of are activists for the Democratic Party. I spend a lot of time researching this area. It doesn't come as any surprise once you have a grasp of the labor movement.
Two wonderful site to track PAC donations are

AFL CIO President, John Sweeney, is a Member of Scialist International and Democratic Socialists of America

Once the Union leadership and their political beliefs are understood it's no surprise they are linked to the Democratic Party.
Thanks for the Ping!
This is going into "bookmarks."
Thanks for the post.
I'm a Texas Firefighter and busy fighting to protect and expand our Right to Work Laws.
What many don't understand is that the bargaining legislation being passed in Texas effectively creates the situation where the bargaining entities can circumvent all State Right to Work Laws.
We have the potential for Non Right to Work cities being located in Right to Work States. There are already examples in Texas of Right to Work Law being circumvented legally.
I assume one of your goals would be to protect members from being forced to contribute to the Democratic Party
Congratulations on you and your son's good work.
To the teacher speaking of credentials, the ignorance of that comment speaks for itself.
