Police Keep Close Eye On Border Vigilantes

Vigilantes Spark Protests From Civil Rights Groups

POSTED: 3:48 pm PDT July 15, 2005 UPDATED: 5:28 pm PDT July 15, 2005

SAN DIEGO -- A group of volunteers that plan to start monitoring the San Diego County-Mexico border this weekend -- and their foes -- will not be allowed to commit vigilante or racial violence, authorities said Friday.

Participants in the grassroots project "Operation Border Watch" must limit their involvement to "eyes and ears and talking," San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender warned.

"If there's any violation of the law ... on either side of this issue, law enforcement will, in fact, take action," Kolender said during a news conference.

Also attending the midmorning briefing at the sheriff's Kearny Mesa headquarters were officials with the U.S. Border Patrol and the Chula Vista and National City police departments.

In recent weeks, preparations for the civilian immigration-control effort have sparked protests from civil rights groups, as did similar endeavors conducted in Arizona this year by a group called the Minutemen.

Opponents called the self-appointed border enforcers -- most of whom carry guns -- dangerous vigilantes and bigots.

The monitors say their goal is to help enforce immigration laws and that they carry firearms strictly for self-defense.

Along with law enforcement agencies, immigrant-advocacy groups have promised to send observers to the county's arid southern reaches to keep an eye on the volunteer border watchers.

Americans have become complacent and slow to recognize what has been going on right under their noses. Much of this can be blamed on having to work very hard to pay taxes, the mortgage and other family expenses, which leaves most of us very little time to stay on top of what is happening in our national and local centers of power. Our crap-weasel politicians know this and rely on it to keep their positions at the public trough safe.

With the internet, all of that is changing and has been changing over the past 5 years or so. Around here, I now see people charged up and discussing issues they previously always ignored. Now, not so much time has to be spent sifting out the truth among all of the spin put out by the politicians. Very hard to hide the truth these days, although they're still trying.

Be patient and stay positive.

Instead of the authorities keeping a close eye on the trespassers (lawbreakers), they focus on the people trying to stop the trespassing.

There are plenty of cops to watch the good guys but too few to watch the bad guys?

Bull!

Citizens need to be alert everywhere. I think Islamic fanatics are on the rise.

This is what happens today in the United States when the citizenry try to uphold the laws of the country: Law enforcement agencies turn against the US citizenry, and leave the criminals alone.

Which is why the Second Amendment has to be abolished if GWB is going to realize his goal of a global ruling elite built on the back of a poverty-stricken underclass.

That won't happen with 200 million guns floating around the country in private hands. Of course, it will take a citizenry with the spine to use them, but that's another story. . .

This reminds me of the scene in one of the Pink Panther movies where Clouseau is giving the man on the sidewalk a ticket for not having a license for his pet monkey while a gang of bandits is robbing the bank behind him, totally unnoticed by him b/c he's so rapt with busting the guy for not having a pet monkey license.

Well stated. You are much more eloquent than I.

I, also, think the tide is turning in regards to average citizens holding our elected politicians feet to the flame. The pols also see it happening and IMO, they are getting nervous. Perhaps this accounts for their accelerated "power grab".

Thank you, panaxanax

Chief Inspector Dreyfus: "The blind man was a lookout!"

Clouseau: "How can a blind man be a lookout?"

CID: "How can an idiot be a policeman?!

C: "Simple, enlist."

Hopefully the citizens will wake up and fire these guys before it gets to the point of an armed resistance.

We must preserve the Constitution, at any and all costs. Life without freedom is not worth living.

200 million guns pried from dead American hands will be quite a task, even for the "U.N. Blue Helmets".

Apparently they have an internal zero tolerance policy, including something seemingly innocuous as putting ones hand on your weapon.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned the 'power of suggestion', but that is what the President is doing, planting an idea. And for all those far away folks who this isn't a real problem, and who aren't paying close attention, or aren't too bright to begin with, the suggestion of vigilantism takes hold right quick.

Too, the word vigilante itself is one of those key words, like isolationist, that we have been conditioned to disassociate ourselves from. And, with most people, there is no reasoning that can get around the conditioning. Also known as demonizing.

Nea Wood said:

I think it is way past time for the American people to take to the streets in rage, demanding our country back.

That's the same week the government with take off its smiley face, to show you who owns who, so ya better be very very serious(& quietly well prepared) before you go wishing for that sir. Just the sad fact.

Another is that this is for the purpose of undermining our national sovereignty from a different direction than the, Building a North American Community, mentioned elsewhere. Same planners mind you, just a separate form of divide and conquer.

Anyhow, enjoy America while it lasts...!

One highly critical aspect you are overlooking is that this same government educates (y)our children into their collectivist ideology. Now they can't fix the roads or teach math or reading and writing but making our children ignorant of our history and legal responsibilities and rights, they do very well.

I urge everyone to read the Underground History of American Education:
johntaylorgatto.com/
The entire book is available online. Written by a former national Teacher of the Year, I assure you it will explain more than you want to know about what you are actually up against regarding the demise of this nation.

Czar srote:

With the internet, all of that is changing...

Which is why the buzz has already begun about how the internet has problems and we may need a new one. It will be taken over and severely restricted to commerce and acceptable content in the future. Without controlling information flow, there cannot be an appropriately maliable collective corporatist society.

What's the good American matra?

Buy buy buy

At what point do the Americans finally say enough is enough?

Right after they are outnumbered and it is too late.

Believe me, I have no illusions about what has happened to our education system. Another major scandal. This is one more area that requires a thorough house cleaning, starting with abolishing all teachers unions and setting much tougher standards for earning tenure (unless we decide to dump that altogether as well). California is a perfect example of what is wrong with education in America.

No, I'm not overlooking education.
