Rove Reportedly Held Phone Talk on C.I.A. Officer

WASHINGTON, July 14 - Karl Rove, the White House senior adviser, spoke with the columnist Robert D. Novak as he was preparing an article in July 2003 that identified a C.I.A. officer who was undercover, someone who has been officially briefed on the matter said Thursday. Wilson: What I Didn't Find in Africa (July 6, 2003)

Mr. Rove has told investigators that he learned from the columnist the name of the C.I.A. officer, who was referred to by her maiden name, Valerie Plame, and the circumstances in which her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, traveled to Africa to investigate possible uranium sales to Iraq, the person said.

After hearing Mr. Novak's account, the person who has been briefed on the matter said, Mr. Rove told the columnist: "I heard that, too."

The previously undisclosed telephone conversation, which took place on July 8, 2003, was initiated by Mr. Novak, the person who has been briefed on the matter said.

Six days later, Mr. Novak's syndicated column reported that two senior administration officials had told him that Mr. Wilson's "wife had suggested sending him" to Africa. That column was the first instance in which Ms. Wilson was publicly identified as a C.I.A. operative. The column provoked angry demands for an investigation into who disclosed Ms. Wilson's name to Mr. Novak.

The Justice Department appointed Patrick J. Fitzgerald, a top federal prosecutor in Chicago, to lead the inquiry. Mr. Rove said in an interview last year that he did not know the C.I.A. officer's name and did no

This is what the left is aiming for. This whole thing has been orchestrated with this goal in mind, to tie President Bush himself into it.

All this insidious speculation, in the larger hopes of the libs and the media, to include Bush in this sickens me.

identified a C.I.A. officer who was undercover,

This LIE underpins the entire DemonicRat argument,,,, she was brought back from overseas in 1997 six years before the incident with Rove and Novak, the Statute has a 5 year limit on any liability. And only for CIA operatives overseas is it applicable!

That makes some sense...it still doesn't explain Loud Larry O'Donnell's certain long-time knowledge of this matter.
Which I think needs a thorough vetting. What does Larry know, when did he know it and who told him ?

correction: after "yet another" failed gotcha story....

it's getting hard to count how many stories these fools concoct. And add Rove to the list of those the liberals say must go, i.e. Rummy must go, impeach Bush, Cheney and Halliburton, and on it goes...keep digging morons.

Doh! Looks like the Times forgot to check with little Joey before they ran their story! Their lede says "Karl Rove, the White House senior adviser, spoke with the columnist Robert D. Novak as he was preparing an article in July 2003 that identified a C.I.A. officer who was undercover, someone who has been officially briefed on the matter said."

EXCELLENT CATCH!

thanks mucho for the heads up. Looks like you stayed up for the news. Me? I'm just waking up to it, and my early, early morning coffee never tasted so good.

(And I haven't even read the AP yet.)

They'll probably start dredging up Armstrong Williams and Jeff Gannon again, to demonstrate the "pattern."

Well, if the Gang that Cannot Shoot Straight keeps up what they've been doing, they are more likely to accidentally dig up Dan Rather & Mary Mapes.

I related to him the details of my friend's encounter with Novak and pointed out that whatever my wife might or might not be, it was the height of irresponsibility for Novak to share such information with an absolute stranger on a Washington street.

***Novak told a perfect stranger on the street the same day he talked to Rove!
That just stretches the imagination beyond belief.
Novak probably knew the person, even if only casually. Those were very candid remarks and not ones a person would usually make to a rank stranger.
Also, the fact that Wilson didn't name who his "friend" in all of this was leaves an awful aroma in the wind. Dollars to donuts Wilson sent him/her to feel Novak out as to what Novak knew. I mean, this "complete stranger" just casually started a conversation on the subject and Novak complied with no reservations whatsoever?? It just doesn't pass the smell test.
I, however, sure would like to see Novack "out" this "unknown friend" of Wilson's since outing others is the seasonal summer theme this year.

Can somebody help me refute a RAT at work who says if this had happened in a DemoRAT White House there would already be Congressional hearings on this and Talk Radio would be talking about it 24/7? Basically accusing us of hypocracy in other words. I just told them that knowing the kind of people in this administration, I give them the benefit of the doubt, where I wouldn't if it was a RAT president. Of course that doesn't go very far with the libs.
