Subject: Moving On: A New Kind of Peace Activism

By Don Hazen, AlterNet    "Our goal is to make it impossible to ignore the    anti-war sentiment in this country." - Eli Pariser    of MoveOn.org

A tall, bearded young man, his blue suit hanging awkwardly on his body, steps to the microphone in an ornate room in Washington, D.C.'s JW Marriot Hotel.
To the young man's right is the suave, articulate Ambassador Joe Wilson, who served as Deputy Chief of Mission to Iraq in the Clinton Administration.
To his left is former Congressman Tom Andrews, the savvy new National Director of Win Without War, a broad-based anti-war coalition.

These men, along with Darcy Scot Martin of Women's Action for New Directions (WAND), Rev. Brenda Gerton- Mitchell of the National Council of Churches and others are at the Marriot to make the case to the American people for the continuation of UN inspections as a strategy of containment.
The goal: to avoid destabilizing the Middle East, which would increase the chances of future terrorist attacks and expose U.S. military and Iraqi civilians and soldiers to the retaliation with biological and chemical weapons that an invasion of Iraq may well provoke.

So....Wilson liked containment of Iraq

Was someone close to Wilson part of the Oil-for-Food scandal?

Wilson liked containment of Iraq

because he didn't want to

'expose U.S. military and Iraqi civilians and soldiers to the retaliation with biological and chemical weapons that an invasion of Iraq may well provoke. '

HMMMMMMMMMM!!!! Interesting thought. Someone in the U.S. had to benefit from Oil For Food scandal right. Wilson or some of his "allies" would be just to perfect.

But there is always hope. And it would be much fun.

He has "French connections", which was part of the sell to send him to Niger.

Do you know if Gold mines also produce uranium?

After only one year on the job Wilson decided to retire and go into the private sector because "we wanted to have kids, and felt that it had become very difficult to live off two government salaries." He set up a consultancy, J. C. Wilson headquarters of the Rock Creek Corporation AN INVESTMENT FIRM OF WHICH LITTLE IS KNOWN. Willisson's right-wing critics have been quick to condemn the affiliation as "musk," though Wilson does not work for Rock Creek and merely rents space and facilities there.

'I HAVE A NUMBER OF CLIENTS, AND BASICALLY WE HELP THEM WITH THEIR SORT OF INVESTMENTS IN COUNTRIES LIKE NIGER," explains Wilson. "Niger was of some interest because it has some gold deposits coming onstream. WE HAD SOME CLIENTS WHO WERE INTERESTED IN GOLD.... We were looking to set up a gond-mine company out of London."

And oh, seems Wilson was against the war ....

During the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, Wilson had taken a measured public position—viewing weapons of mass destruction as a danger but considering military action as a last resort. He has seemed much more critical of the administration since revealing his role in Niger," Novak observes.

And did I mention both Plames AND her boss sorta thought this uranium thing was well, "objectionable" and how did she say......"crazy"?

Cheney and his chief of staff. Lewis Libby, visited the CIA several times at Langley and told the staff to make more of an effort to find evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and to uncover Iraqi attempts to acquire nuclear capabilities. One of the people who objected most fervently to what he saw as "Intimidation" according to one former CIA case officer, was ALAN FOLEY, then ghd HEAD OF THE WEAPONS INTELLIGENCE, Non-Pfoliferation and Arms Control Center. HE WAS VALERIE PLAME'S BOSS.

The report said Plame told committee staffers that she relayed the CIA's request to her husband, saying, "THERE'S THIS CRAZY REPORT" about a purported deal for Niger to sell uranium to Iraq. The committee found Wilson had made an earlier trip to Niger in 1999 for the CIA, also at his wife's suggestion.

Since Wilson was anti-Saddam before the oil-for-food program began and pro-Saddam after, you may have a good theory. I think Wilson has a number of "European" friends that may have had their gravy train cut off.

WAND is a lesser publicized Democrat Women's organization. Been around for awhile.

D-Women's Action for New Directions

WAND empowers women to act politically to reduce violence and militarism, and redirect excessive military resources toward unmet human and environmental needs.

They have their own PAC, and their own section for D-Women Legislators.

WAND also sponsors: STAND

National youth conference on nuclear issues: August 15-21, 2005 The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and its partners invite you to participate in “Think Outside the Bomb,” a gathering of young leaders, disarmament experts, veteran activists, and artists. August 15-21, 2005 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. For application, click here

and...

Leave My Child Alone! A Family Privacy Campaign to Protect Our High School Students From Unwanted Military Recruiting: WAND and WiLL are working with other groups to raise awareness about a provision hidden in the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Click here for more.... and then I just had to look:

State of the Union 2005: WAND encourages "active listening" as an act of patriotism

WAND is providing a State of the Union Listening Guide to facilitate this process. The Guide consists of a series of handy charts, which are easy to print out and fill in. The charts highlight specific topics to listen for, along with spaces for taking notes and recording conclusions. If possible, please make copies of the completed Guide to mail to the President and members of Congress. Addresses are listed at the bottom.

The 2005 State of the Union address is a great opportunity for meaningful action. When you tune in to the President's speech, take care to listen up. It's a vitally important task, an exercise of our responsibility as citizens, an act of patriotism.

Would you consider Joe Wilson close to Wilson?

Better than the money, consider Scott Ritter. Then consider Joe Wilson.
