My family members seem to have the disadvantage of being born and living most of our lives in the South, in our case, Tennessee.

Wha... Wha... What? There is no greater advantage a man can have than being born and spending his life in the South. Disadvantage? It must be a typo.

... it seemed to conjure up that redneck image one might associate with the humor of Jeff Foxworthy and other Southern comedians. That image is of a culture of ignorant hillbillies (certainly due to inbreeding!), barefoot, living in a shack with no indoor plumbing (but certainly an outhouse in back), having a dog living under the front porch, and owning an overgrown lawn populated with broken-down, dilapidated automobiles. And, yes, we all chew tobacco and sit on the front porch swing playing the banjo. Everyone also flies a Confederate flag and reminisces about the War Between the States.

Don't that just sound like paradise? Although I can only assume that by "War Between the States" the author is referring to the War of Northern Aggression.

The northerners have fried their brains. Did you know 80% of southerners have central a/c while only 27% of northeasterners do? And they call us ignorant? And don't give me it doesn't get hot up there. It does too.

A woman with a true southern accent can have a man wrapped around her finger in no time flat, if she wants.

Oh, and a joke I heard this morning, just for you 8-)

What's worse than a male chauvenist pig?

A woman who won't do what she's told.

Southerners are more polite too (on a whole). And friendlier. Heck, if I didn't already live down here, I reckon I'd move here too. Poor yankees, they just want what we have, and are jealous of us. That's all it is.

Sounds like the author, Richard Cox, needs to move on back here to Tennessee with us tobacco chewing, banjo playing, bare-footed ridge runners (I really do chew tobacco anyway).
On another note, getting ready to go on vacation up into Wisconsin. Alot of people ask "Don't you just hate that drive back home?" Hey, that's the best part, returning!
In Air Force basic when we began training on the M-16, the instructor asked how many of us were from the South...many of us raised our hands and he smiled and said that this was going to be one of his easier taught classes.
"American by birth and southern by the grace of God"...how sweet the sound!

Having had the true disadvantage of growing up and working most of my career in the San Francisco Bay Area of Californis and having relocated to Alabama, I know it is paradise. I only wish they had classes at the local school so us outsiders could learn to blend in better with our local friends. (Many more than CA ever produced.)
