Thanks you for your comments Gingersnaps, but let's not compare apples to oranges.

I have dealt with Psychopaths in my career and Joran is one by all criteria. I do appreciate your respective comments.

I will add, I myself am a chick magnet, but no Psychopath. I do not put roofies in their drinks and force sex on them. I am just a damn good looking man who is financially secure, graduate degree, two careers in both Military /Federal Law Enforcement Civil service.

I also drive a Corvette, cultured, dress immaculate and very experienced in courtship of the female species.

After reading your posts, if your son were a Psychopath, I know you would insure he received the proper medical attention and counselling.

We just have a different view, but in all honesty I have dealt with these psychopaths in many cases. It is easy to spot them once you view them from the psychological stand point.

I have been there and done that, not tooting my horn to anyone. If Gary or myself had an iota of doubt, we would not label Joran a sociopath(psychopath)

My response is not to be subjective, but merely objective.

I agree...I have always been a chick magnet too. And I seem to attract lint and cats and squirrels...and nuts of the human kind.

Also, when I was young and foolish...I was young and foolish.

I won't say what I do for a living, but it involves sociopaths (and even some people outside my family).

But I will say this...this island, Aruba, creates an environment for hiding the truth. It is well-known as being parasitic. It encourages old and young to bury the truth.

Since truth is the antidote to sociopathology (a dead conscience)...this island promotes sociopathology.

Oh, and the young are the first victims of "the disorder of the dead conscience."

But, hold that thought, the doorbell is ringing and it's probably more chicks (or lint or cats or, God forbid, family).

The first clue I had regarding Joran was when he blamed his mother for his problem. A second tip was his reply to Beth, "What do you want me to do about it?"
One of the attributes of the sociopath is an inability to recognize his own error. The sociopath can lie, swindle, and abuse, and never really understand why everybody gets so worked up about it. Without the capacity to feel pain, the sociopath injures himself and others and totally ignores it. He makes mistakes and goes on as if nothing happened. Other symptoms include impulsiveness, irritability, aggressiveness, recklessness and remorselessness.

What I was trying to do in that post was point out how similar my son and Joran van der Sloot are, at least in ways that are verified to be true.

For instance, both are hard partiers/gamblers, somewhat immature and impulsive; but both are also excellent students, managed to do very well in challenging schoolwork, and show some degree of responsibility.

Now I know my son is no psychopath, for all the typical teenaged boy behavior he shows (btw, my other sons aren't like that -- but then, they're not chick magnets either).

So I'm inclined to conclude, based on what we know about Joran (real evidence, not rumors), that he's not a socio- or psychopath either.

Now if people come up with actual evidence (not anonymous tall tales) that he intentionally killed a dog, or slipped drugs in girls' drinks, I might change my mind.
