Police investigating suspicious container in Princeton; Iowa man in custody

PRINCETON, Illinois – A bomb squad has been called in to investigate a suspicious container found in a van at a Princeton gas station.

Police say a man drove into a Shell station just off of the Interstate 80 / Illinois 26 interchange around 3:30 a.m. The station’s manager says the man told the attendant on duty that he had explosives and that he was going to Washington.

A truck driver tipped off police to the van. Police say the driver heard talk over CB radio about the van. He saw the van in Walcott, Iowa and followed the van roughly 80 miles until the van pulled into the Shell station.

While searching the van, police came across a suspicious container and called a bomb squad from Springfield. The Secret Service is also investigating the incident.

The van’s driver, Terry Daniel, 44, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was taken to the Bureau County Jail.

"Purple Line evacuated after bomb threat"

July 13, 2005

BY MARK J. KONKOL AND MAUDLYNE IHEJIRIKA Staff Reporters

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CTA Purple Line stations in Evanston between the Howard and Linden stops were evacuated Tuesday afternoon following a call to Chicago Police from someone threatening to blow up an L train.

The unidentified caller, who contacted police from 31 E. Balbo at 3:58 p.m., said three bombs on a Purple Line train between Belmont and Linden would detonate in 10 minutes, a police spokesman said.

Chicago Police contacted Evanston and Wilmette Police, who evacuated stations. Chicago officers inspected Red and Purple Line trains, but no stations in the city were closed, police said."

Article Snippet #2: "The bogus bomb threat was the fourth time the CTA system has been interrupted by security fears since terrorist bombs crippled London's transit system last week."

Hmm... my "source" (mom!!) described a very dramatic spectacle, with police everywhere, and she's a war survivor.. not one to amp things up. What do you think? Are the 60093's trying to make dainty of this?
