US President George Bush is attending the G8 Summit at Gleneagles, Scotland, which unfortunately was disturbed today due to the terrorist attack in London. British PM Tony Blair left Gleneagles to return to London briefly to assess the situation though returned to the summit later in the evening.

The summit will continue tomorrow but it is expected to end probably a little earlier than originally intended to allow Tony Blair to return to London tomorrow afternoon

Vice President Dick Cheney will undergo a routine exam Friday to check the condition of a high-tech pacemaker that was placed in his chest in June 2001.

Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said the tests at George Washington University Medical Center would include a physical exam, an electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram and a stress test. The vice president planned to be back at work later in the day, she said.

"It's a routine physical," she said. She said the vice president also would have a colonoscopy later this month.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice signed the book of condolences at the British Embassy in Washington she also met with the British Ambassador to the U.S. David Manning

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

The prayers of all of us are with you and your countrymen! When I got up this morning and started reading the London thread, the question asked most often was "Have we heard from snugs and MadIvan?" What a relief to read that you both were okay!

How is your dad reacting to all of this?

Darn--and I would have loved to have one! I want a little British flag to fly beside my little American flag out front, but don't even know where to get one around here.

Just received a wonderful toaster on June 29th:

Any chance I can get a matching blender? Could sure use a frozen margarita after today's events.

BTW, any limits on prizes (1 toaster per Freeper per month or something?)

Dear snugsie - having lived in London several times, the last at 102 George St., near the American Embassy, I'm horrified at these bombings.

I remember well the drapes and curtains hanging down on the floor at the Embassy - protection against bomb blasts, to have enough fabric to move with the glass if a bomb blew in the windows, to attempt to protect the people inside. I thought then and think now - how horrible it is that we have to live with the concept of protection from bomb blasts. Of course, I saw those drapes in 1979, 1981,2,3,4,5, and for the last time in 1989 - all pre-9/11, but very real for Brits because of previous IRA bombings in England.

I was so horrified to see the results of the attacks today and so very glad to read on the "live" thread that patriciaruth had heard from you and that you were safe and sound.

I was busy, trying to find out if a Grand-nephew, studying in London for the Summer was alive and well - and only ascertained about 2 hours ago, that while they were in the tube, on one of the trains when the bomb went off, they are scared, but unharmed.

We live in very uncertain times and my heartfelt condolences to the families of those touched by these bombings today, and for all the victims - may they heal quickly. For the deceased, peace eternal and may their families feel the touch of God's mercy and peace.

I'm so sorry.

I love those lapel pings (badges or brooches as we call them in the UK). I only knew one place where you could buy them and I kept missing when they had them in stock and I do not think they have them now. It is nice to see though you can still get them in the States.

The attackers seem to missing some historical perspective...HRH QEII herself could attest to this!

Yes, the terrorists should have read their history books instead of their bomb-making books before starting something with the British! They always come together to fight against the enemy! God bless them!

Man Ivan I believe lives in Chichester which is further away from London than I am.

Thank you for your prayers and concerns

Dad has says for many years that our underground system is where they would attack and both him and I have always felt it was a when and not an if. I think most people in England feel that as well. I am confident that this will make our resolve even more to defeat these terrorists
