I'm a 55 year-old man, widowed 1-1/2 years ago. I am financially secure, my three kids are mostly raised and my home is paid for, I will be able to retire in about 4 years and wouldn't think of getting married again. I had 29 wonderful years and in those nearly three dacades the social marketplace has changed a whole lot. When I was in my 20's the guys chased the women. Not now. I got hit on at my wife's wake, I was invited to a woman's summer home for a weekend 20 minutes after I met her. I'm not bragging and I know other widowers who have similar stories.
If a man has a job or financial security, looks okay and is not deep in debt he is considered prime. I'm going to enjoy the situation and make it plain that marriage is something I did and did well but I'm not doing it again.
I got hit on at my wife's wake...My word, that's tacky! I have heard similar stories, too, though. *shudder*
