I would have been thrilled if they used Sir Richard Burton's narration (from the Jeff Wayne music novel) at the beginning and end, instead of Miss Daisy's chauffeur.

Clayton Forrester? Didn't he strand Joel and the 'bots on the Satellite of Love?

I hear Ann Robinson, his co-star in the '53 version, is also in that same scene. Waiting for the crowds to die down a bit before seeing the new one. The original flick scared the hell out of me as a kid. Wouldn't mind that feeling again.

does Dakota seem different at the end of the movie? I wonder if Cruise tried to convert her during filming?

Betcha the New WOTW was filmed in a PC fashion. Therefore, there are no church scenes with the kneeling, praying populace!
Gene Barry searched every church for the heroine. Why? Because he knew that the heroine would seek sanctuary in a church for protection from those evil aliens!

I get a kick out of it, when they do things like this in the movie remakes...there was also something like this when they remade the 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'....the hero doctor in that movie was an actor by the name of Kevin McCarthy....when they remade that movie many years later, with Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nimoy, there was a scene on the street...the scene is from inside of a car, and as the crowds are passing in front of the windshield of the car, a pedestrian throws himself across and windshield, and hollers something like "Run, they are coming", or words to that effect....that pedestrian was none other than Kevin McCarthy...and he is hollering the words similar to what he told his rescuers at the end of the original movie he made...

That is just way cool!

Thanks for the Brooklyn bump.
Gene Barry went to New Utrecht H.S. with my dad.
Can't remember if that was his real name.

***Saw War of the Worlds last night. ***
There is another NEW version of WAR OF THE WORLDS that does not have T C in it. I have not seen it yet but it is for sale in some video stores. It was a "direct to video store" movie.
