War of the Worlds--cool cameo (spoiler!!)
Me | 6/30/2005 | me

Saw War of the Worlds last night. Did anybody else notice the cool cameo appearance, right at the end, by...Gene Barry? He played Dr. Clayton Forrester, the hero of George Pal's version of the story. He was part of the group standing on the steps in the house in Boston--the white-haired guy on the left. He must be 80-something, but he looked pretty good.

Don't ask. Look him up. I'll give you a hint. He starred in the original War of the Worlds.

Good one, PV. Let's not forget "Bat Masterson" and "The Name Of The Game" either.

You shouldn't use such big words with the kids. They don't understand and will lose interest.

Protaganist, derived from the main character of the Greek drama, "Protigone".

I would have been thrilled if they used Sir Richard Burton's narration (from the Jeff Wayne music novel) at the beginning and end, instead of Miss Daisy's chauffeur.

Back when the west was very young,
There lived a man named Masterson.
He wore a cane and derby hat,
They called him Bat, Bat Masterson.

The trail that he blazed is still there.
No one has come since, to replace his name.
And those with too ready a trigger,
Forgot to figure on his marching home.

Now in the legend of the west,
One name stands out of all the rest.
The man who had the fastest gun,
His name was Bat, Bat Masterson.

Also, the real Bat was a deputy to Wyatt Earp in Dodge City. He was later a sportswriter and boxing promoter and was good friends with Theodore Roosevelt.
