Great series, Ginobili just took it over in the fourth quarter. Still think he looks like Andy Garcia, though.

You'd think that the NBA and MSM would promote the Spurs, since they're such good guys and team players that they'd win some fans (and therefore RATINGS) from the people who have given up on professional sports because of the criminal and egotistical element.

But it seems they'd rather sit and whine about the "small market" and not do anything about it.

And just run cute commercials with Phil Jackson.

Obviously. But the trashing and running down of Detroit moments after losing a close game 7 is rather tacky. And I was rooting all along for SA.

I went to census.gov... and yes, as of the 2000 census, Sacramento's population = 407,018. As of 2003, it's at 445,335.
San Antonio's population: 2000 = 1,144,646, 2003 estimate = 1,214,725. If you count people in outlying areas it adds up to about 1.5 million.

Here are some more cities that have NBA teams and are smaller than San Antonio:
Indianapolis, IN (783,438)
Milwaukee, WI (586,941)
Minneapolis, MN (373,188)
New Orleans, LA (469,032)
Portland, OR (2003 estimate = 538,544)
Salt Lake City, UT (179,894)

Do you still think San Antonio's a small town?

I don't know a thing about basketball, but it seems funny a small town in Texas is the best in the NBA

It's the ninth largest city in America.
And the third largest in Texas.

Texas is so big, even our "small towns" have over a million people.

Oh gosh, Tony played in France, Manu's from Argentina. What's this country coming to? And Timmy's from the Virgin Islands. That's like in the same general area as Cuba. Timmy's a communist!!! Let's kill him!!!!!! </Sarcasm>

"There hasn't been a riot (sports-related or non-sports) in Detroit in over two decades."

That's because there's nothing left to burn...

What is that huge tower we went up in San Antonio near where the Spurs play?

That is the Tower of Americas, on that site is where the 1968 Worlds Fair was held. It has a restraunt at the top and rotates very very slowly. It is closed now for renovation and Landrys will be going in once it opens. I am ashamed that my kids have never been up there, but now that Landrys is going in we will take them.

The Spurs now have their own Arena, the SBC center and it is a located a little east of that area. The AlamoDome is what you are thinking of and they did play there for awhile. That was then, Mayor Henry Cisneros pet project that I personally didn't vote for. But that is another thread. haha

There are websites dedicated to the ruins of Detroit. Don't blame me, I didn't make them. Personally, I blame the French-looking name of the city.

I'm willing to guess Detroit has the most population decline of any major metropolitan area. I won't bother to look it up, but it loses a chunk of population every year.

That's no reason to lose hope. Cleveland is making a somewhat-reasonable comeback after years of being a punchline, what with the river fire and the reign of King Dennis the coocoo. There's a long way to go before Detroit becomes the exclusive province of the archeologists.

Won what championship? Is this about tennis? :)

No silly, tennis is about 2 people and a ball. This is about 10 people and a ball.:) For some reason I couldn't get ABC television tonight for about 3 hours. Funny it was for the duration of the 10 people and a ball. :)

It is strange that people think San Antonio is so small..

One thing tho .. it does have a nice "small town" feel at times..

Salt Lake City is that small? Really?

Minneapolis is obviously not including St. Paul and the suburbs. You really have to look at TV market size.

There are only two foreign nationals that I know of playing for SA. If you are thinking of Duncan being from the Virgin Islands, their full name is the US Virgin Islands. I'll give you a moment for that to sink in.

Anyway, why would Tony Parker's being from France make him more likely to convert to Islam than any American born black man?

Not one member of San Antonio is anything less than a gracious gentleman, which, in professional sports, is as rare as a white raven. Is it too much to ask that you judge them by their actions and words than by where they are from?

You guessed right. You didn't want to look it up, but since I already had the website www.census.gov looked up, here's Detroit's population in...
1990: 1,027,974
2000: 951,270
2003(estimate): 911,402
