Congrats...now I gotta go home and mow the law and gather the trash and wash a load of clothes myself.

Ya know, there is no reason a well-made cannister vac can't learn how to vacuum a whole house unattended. Computers....let's get some real time savings out of them, I SAY!

Where does a 17 year old get the money to feed his gambling habit.

He might not have a gambling habit - he might just hang out there.

Probably.

Now there's the mother walking around loose on that island and doesn't suspect the rest of the plot may be affoot ~ there's a type of pornographic story that fits the situation.

She's probably darned lucky the old man got put in the clink.

Sounds more and more like a Matthew Sheppard moment. You remember him, right? Young gay kid, liked the rough trade, found a couple of co-religionists, took them on, and then they robbed him and left him up against a barbed wire fence in winter.

You just never know where this group stuff is going, and some people do, in fact, have financial needs they hold to be much more dear to them than their sexual proclivities.

So how do you edumacate youngsters to the risks?!

A dark side view: Aruba LE and Gov't officials are panic struck that PVDS spoke openly with the press (Fox). Suppose he say something in another interview, that compromises VDS Jr; as they work to get him off?

Best to shut him up while, Aruba finds a way out of the is mess (after all, the kid was American, not like she was one of us enlightened Europeans).

Bring him in: a) keeps him from saying something that re-opens the case down the road, and, 2) works to co-ord. stories between Jr. and Sr.

In my experience, with the oldests in the family, you can't. The younger ones learn fast and hard for the mess-ups of the older ones.

These oldests have a sorry tendency to ignore what parents have to say, because they tend to think we 'rents are clueless, no matter how we try to present the "facts".

Some of us end up grieving, even though we did our best.

Arrrgh!  You guys are driving me crazy!  These are just a few of the many ambiguous comments a reader of this thread has to wade through, none of which contains background information about the original statement or question.

Someone from the Thread Police needs to start giving out tickets!

I'm just theorizing, of course. I don't have any basis for my opinion at all. Just Wild eyed and punch drunk from an all nighter at work.

I really don't consider this to be close to the Matthew Sheppard incident. But then again, we don't really know what all happened.

But in response to your question -- how to educate -- well, someone should have made the effort...and it looks like this wasn't done here. But then, as I said, there should have still been adult supervision on this trip, and there wasn't. These kids might have been 18, but they weren't exactly grownups.

I agree.

Legal age should be 21 to be able to do anything, voting, driving, drinking, etc., etc.

"The problem with those sex slave abduction theories is that if there was some sort of sex slave ring, there would be other missing tourists/natives that would have appeared on the radar screen."

Amy Bradley disappeared from her room on a cruise ship near Aruba (she was traveling with her parents/brother) and was spotted by a navy officer a year later in a brothel in Curacao. Unfortunately he ignored her when she told him her name and begged for help. A young woman from NJ disappeared from Beaches in Negril under equally mysterious circumstances the day before she was due to return home.

I happen to think this girl was raped/killed/body dumped, but you're mistaken if you believe there's no evidence of white slavery/missing young women.

"Good post and I agree. I would add though, that "doping her" would not be the most likely scenario. It would be more likely that she went willingly and either an accident occurred or something got out of hand."

Considering that the kid has been alleged to be an ecstasy dealer, I think doping her would absolutely be the most likely scenario, particularly when so many who knew her said she wasn't a heavy drinker/wild kid.
