For someone who should know how law enforcement works down there, pvds is just stupid! He either didn't know they could trace his bank actions and didn't know LE sometimes bugs houses and taps phones, or he was absolutely panic stricken, or thought due to his position, they'd cover for him.
Can't wait to find out how many other mistakes he's made.

What did PVDS mean when he said he "hopes his son stands up to the interogation". I found this a puzzling statement - accounting for misuse of English - I am trying to think what he could have meant to say (remember he is translating from Dutch in his head"...what could the Dutch be that he was thinking...? Anyone know Dutch - I know some German but cannot think of how this would be said in German. Bottom line, if taken literrally it sounds like he is saying I hope he doesn't confess. Not only that, but I just saw an interesting exchange on MSNBC's Dan Abrams program. Dan 'went to town' with his questioning on an Aruban govt. representative. He point blank asked her if there was protections against giving damaging information about a father/son/mother, etc. She said that there was protections against having to testify or confess anything 'crime related' against a parent or child.
Dan then asked her if the suspects have to answer any and all questions or if they can refuse to answer. She said they can refuse to answer questions if they wish.
No wonder PvdS hopes Joran 'stands up to the interrogation'! Arrrrgh!

If Pappa VdS paid someone off Don't think so.
No telling why he withdrew so much $....maybe he was going to send joran back to Holland til the heat died down?
Didn't count on his son being looked at so soon?

Anita VDS, the mother, has already heard her own son pass on the guilt to her, only she doesn't even realize it yet. Paraphrase "I wouldn't have gone out if you'd been home". What a great son he is!

Beth has said she "knows" that at 3 a.m. her daughter was at JVS's home. How? No idea. Perhaps a call was traced, or perhaps that's where the "kidnappers" said they were holding her. That 3 a.m. time frame just stood out to me. Did Natalee have a cell phone? If so is it possible that Natalee's cell phone rang Beth's cell phone unknowingly to whoever would have been in possession of it. This happens.
Snoop that I am, I just love it when I get those accidental phone calls and you can listen to what is going on if you so desire. :)

I read somewhere that the authorities down there checked the dads banking records and found he went to the ATM the night the girl disappeared 3 times at 300 am. and 3.45 am in the morning. Seems strange to need cash that late, but then again it's a party town. But I thought the mom said her husband was sound asleep? Who knows?I heard reports he was gambling that night. And that the wife was in Holland. That could explain a lot!
But who knows what reports are accurate, after some news outlet (Fox?) reported Natalee's body had been found a couple of weeks ago.

She said that there was protections against having to testify or confess anything 'crime related' against a parent or child.Exception to that is, if a parent/child sees the other doing something illegal, then they must testify to it.

The remnants of the old colonial class system are still alive and well on Aruba, so the Kalpoe brothers are way down on the social scale and not likely to be invited to any VDS dinner parties. I really liked Mrs. Kalpoe, however. In her interview with Greta, she was sincere, simple, heartbroken, worried, and trying to keep her life together and her sons back. Mrs. VDS is busy blaming everybody else but Joran and Paulus at this point.

Horrific. Prayers for them and their family.

Natalee left her cellphone in her bag at the hotel. It would not work on the island (so she thought). The one person who stayed behind was able to reprogram it so that it would work in Aruba and he used it to call Natalee mom with until they got the island.

this same person who stayed behind also used it to call Natalee's friends to find out what they knew. That is how they found out about Joran and when Natalee parents got to Aruba this one person had enough info to give to Natalee's parents The person is the chaperone that stayed behind.

All true, PVDS was stupid about the ATM transactions and the rest of it, but he was between a rock and a hard place. If DJ demanded cash on the barrelhead for the boat trip that night, he had to come up with the money. Probably DJ wouldn't take a personal check and PVDS didn't have a thousand bucks lying around in spare change. He must have thought his position and the way the legal system worked would get them home free. Especially if they could blame it on somebody else. I wonder who thought up the security guard story.

They were in the trunk of one of the fathers' cars in the driveway? If this is true, then when mom came back out in the 5-10 minutes she says she was gone, wouldn't the kids have been yelling inside the trunk??
I would think so.

How very tragic!
I should think police would know by now to check the car trunk FIRST.
Too sad for words. They were darling little boys.
