Don't worry. In 10-15 years when a Chinese corp. needs your subdivision land for a new plant using Mexican labor-they'll be more than fair with their offer.

I think Bush and Republican Legislators WILL back property rights. Its a slam dunk. Also, we can flog the Democrats on this issue. ALL their Justices supported this decision. Message: "Vote Democrat, keep losing your property rights..."

I don't think so. Big Development and Big Retail are OVERWHELMINGLY Republicans and they speak with $500,000 checks. This is going to put the GOP between its core constituents and its core corporations. Somehow, I don't think you guys will win...

"Wow. Hard to believe from a town built on mob money, huh? :)"

Mayor Oscar Goodman was the mob lawyer. He's heavy into downtown redevelopment. Get the connection anyone? commissioners going to jail already, what will happen now?

Oh, the commishes will probably all be exonerated, yet replaced with a new set of fresh disciples of gov't-sponsored corruption. Are you surprised?

So any ideas here on what to do?

Maybe this all encompassing government thing is inevitable. Maybe no matter how many times we post here on FreeRepublic the statists will still win. What good is it spending year after year trying to roll back government in the smallest of increments when we get slammed like this.

I'm not prone to hyberbole. Still, maybe it's time to just logoff and be with the family

Don't worry, today's ruling is merely the codification of what's occuring already with competing suburbs/cities over their respective tax bases. The ruling really only...makes it kinda...legal. Yuck...

I have to disagree. These corporate interests are there but very decentralized - lots of local issues. I also dont believe these guys are only in bed with Republicians.

"This is VERY bad news. Just which so-called "justices" voted for this?"

wrong! It is the one's that believe in the power of the State over the individual. The courts just gave local parasite governments incredible power. Don't bring in the naive idea that big business has anything to do with this. Some big businesses may indeed benefit. This is strictly government officials with NO respect for the Constitution deciding to give more power to government. It is that simple. The 5 evil justices believe in the state over the individual. I pray those five burn in Hell.

Bush needs to speak on this ruling so we can see where he stands

I will be surprised to hear anything from Bush.

No, it really doesn't matter if the local gov't swings left or right, if they are persuaded by business interests, then property rights will obviously be discarded at will. I would have to say that the retail/corporate interests that are strong-arming gov'ts are swinging mostly right, tho. Party affiliation really doesn't matter, but their practices are reprehensible.

EXACTLY. IMO...this ruling goes against constitutional principles..and is truly dangerous...

This ruling is dangerous, but 95% of American's wont care one bit. Freepers are quite informed, but we are a small minority in a dumbed down society.

I wonder what Mark Levin had to say, I wish I could hear his radio show.

Our county has recently started some tremendous growth. This will NOT help us individuals. the city government have already had one 'secret" meeting to vote to tear down some buildings. the paper was signed before anyone was told. So YES, you are right, there will be a big problem from local gov'ts on this.

Georgia state legislature tried to slip two bills through that would be ROUGH when coupled with this decision.

No, your view is myopic. If, at ANY level of government the "people" can effect change, it's at the local level. If your local gov't sells out to developer interests at will, then make damn sure you don't put them in office again. Of course, most people that bother to vote don't bother to vote on anyone below senator, but that's OUR fault.
Corporate guys that have outgrown their national borders are the main players in this game; don't be fooled.

Yeah, I don't even think we have recorded votes in Texas at all. How can you tell what gets decided? Accountability is limited to what we read in the -ugh- news.
City council meetings are the thing to watch, though. That's where the action will take place.

That's certainly a different view on it

I'd say that's pretty much the consensus view on FR...what say you?
