'Frankly, My Dear' Is Top AFI Movie Quote

LOS ANGELES -- Rhett Butler said it best -- "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

That parting shot in 1939's "Gone With the Wind" topped the list of the American Film Institute's best quotes from American movies.

Clark Gable's line beat out a pair of Marlon Brando classics -- "I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse" from "The Godfather" and "I coulda been a contender" from "On the Waterfront."

Judy Garland's realization in "The Wizard of Oz" -- "I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore" -- was fourth.

In fifth place was "Casablanca" and Humphrey Bogart's "Here's looking at you, kid."

"Casablanca" led the list with six quotes.

M.A.S.H. may have some of the most popular phrases.

Poker, just a game?

Make the stitches bigger.

He was drafted.

Hot Lips? Screw her!

How do you want your steak cooked?

Take two of these and call me in the morning.

Wales: "That's how it is, I guess. Soon as I take a likin' to someone, they never seem to stay around too long."

Chief: "I notice when you take a dislikin' to someone, they ain't around too long neither..."

You miserable corksucker.

Did you know your last name is an adverb?

My mother hit me once. Once.

It's an .88 Magnum. It shoots through schools

Bless the saints. Its an ashtray. I was thinking of taking up smoking. This clinches it.

That must rank as one of the best "so stupid, it's funny" movies.

reading the whole list was great fun. Amazingly, I think I've seen all of them except Scarface and Lord of the Rings.

My family can almost recite Gone With The Wind. Our favorite quote is Big Sam screaming, "Hoss, make tracks!" but Prissy's "I don't know nuthin bout birthin babies" is a close second.

"I ain't got time to bleed"

"There's something out there, and it ain't no man"

"Real nasty habit you've got there"

Well, when Scarface had it's 20th anniversary, I "DRAGED" my wife to see it. (Talk about a change of places).

BTW when GWTW had it's 60th anniveresary, we went to see it.

IMHO, seeing it at the threater is the only TRUE Place to see it. (And this is a Damn Yankee saying it)!!
