I think this could apply to some of the parents as well.

Just found this:

More From The Birmingham News Mountain Brook family, friends keeping faith
Wednesday, June 08, 2005
HANNAH WOLFSON
News staff writer
PALM BEACH, Aruba - The mother of a Mountain Brook teen missing here says she couldn't survive the ordeal without her faith that her daughter is alive and without the aid of friends here and back home.

Beth Twitty and her husband, Jug, a manager for Phoenix Metals in Birmingham, have been here since the evening of May 30, the day Natalee Holloway disappeared on a graduation trip to the Caribbean island.

In an interview with The Birmingham News, the couple thanked the ever-changing crew of friends and family from Alabama who have joined them as they search for their daughter.

CM, your accusations are getting ridiculous. You should be blaming the people who committed the crime...instead, you seek to blame the easy target.

If you are going to blame the chaperones, then you also need to blame her parents and the other people who were in her group at the club.

I think the point is that we need to consider the fact that these crimes are often preventable. That falls in the lap of parents and chaperones.

In an interview with the mom last night: said they are staying in the same room as Natalee at the Holiday Inn.

I found that so sad.

Arubans arrest new suspect in Holloway case
26-year-old allegedly tied to disappearance of U.S. teen
The Associated Press
Updated: 10:02 a.m. ET June 17, 2005

NOORD, Aruba - Aruban authorities have arrested a new suspect in the case of a missing Alabama honors student Natalee Holloway, the prosecutor’s office told NBC on Friday.

The unnamed suspect is 26 years old and was held on suspicion of being involved in her disappearance. The arrest was made at 6:25 a.m. local time, officials said.

On Thursday, an Aruban judge had postponed until Friday a ruling on whether 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot — who was with Holloway the night she disappeared and has been detained but not charged — can be visited by his father, said Attorney General Caren Janssen.

Janssen declined to say whether the judge was considering other petitions related to the case. The boy’s father, Paul van der Sloot, from Holland, is training to be a judge in Aruba, which is a Dutch protectorate in the Caribbean.

Per Aruba DOJ, 4th suspect taken in for questioning.

He is related to this case.

This one may also have a parent in the government.

Reported earlier that a new search is being done based on some new information with this new suspect being arrested.

bonfire, Natalee's precious Mother is ever hopeful the girl is alive. She said she was going to have a talk with Natalee to change her major from Pre-Med to Law. Broke my heart.

Fingers crossed, good people..

These trips have, yes I agree, been going on for quite a while. I remember my children wanting to go on them. However, it is not the trip (although I do not agree with going to a foreign country simply because of the possible legal complications as we are now witnessing), but it is the absence of good judgement on the part of the adults with which I find fault. My heart would be aching so badly had anything ever happened to a teen under my care while away from their parents - contract or not. I could not bear it.

I know most of these kids were probably going to go off to college, etc. I know all the arguments about possible danger at home. None of that excuses the fact that these kids should not have been allowed to go out at 1 A.M. with no chaperones, to a bar, and get drunk.

As for our troops - they are trained, armed, protected. They are not unaware of danger, nor are they running around in the middle of the night drinking. They are with others with whom they have a bond -- to make sure all return safely and foolishness is not unobserved and corrected.

Why not? Were they of the legal age to drink in Aruba?

You have obviously never been in the military.....trained and armed, yes....protected? Not in the sense that you mean. And your last statment is just niave.

If these guys have know where she is for 19 days and have allowed this to go on, I can't imagine a punishment for that.

If you read back on my posts I have often stated that the perps in this crime are most responsible. However, I, and many others who do not feel it is "ridiculous" as you have said about my comments, feel the adults (chaperones, family, whoever) do bear some responsability of poor judgement. There was simply too much freedom given to these kids and that made them easy marks for the evil someone could do.

I do not want to argue the point, this is too sad a case. However, this is my opinion. You are certainly entitled to yours. I will not judge you nor call your opinion "ridiculous." Thank you for your gracious consideration.

Small as Aruba is, it shouldn't take long for someone to figure out where they are searching (if it is on the island)?

I have a daughter the same age. This gets to me too. I imagine her mom in her hotel room holding on to Natalee's clothing, hairbrush, etc. etc. I would have to be drugged to get thru this.

Your ignorance of the knowledge I have of the military is not even worth discussing. This is a serious case of a poor missing girl. Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning? I have stated my opinions, without criticizing you. Please be a good FReeper and do the same.
