Sen. John F. Kerry may be married to one of the world's wealthiest women, but he's like most of us poor schmoes when it comes to running up credit card debt.
The Bay State senator reported between $15,000 and $50,000 in credit card debt last year, according to his new personal financial disclosure statement filed recently with the Senate clerk.
Of course, unlike most of us poor schmoes, the credit card debt is only a small slice of Kerry's otherwise substantial financial pie.
The 2004 Democratic presidential challenger's largest assets are four trust funds valued between $430,000 and $2.56 million.
The four trusts generated between $10,800 and $29,600 in dividend and interest income last year, Kerry's financial disclosure indicates.
Kerry inherited three of the trusts after his mother, Rosemary Kerry, died three years ago.
The family trusts include a broad range of holdings, including Microsoft, Home Depot, Alliance Energy Corp., Pfizer, Verizon, AFLAC, BellSouth, Cintas, Gillette and Cheesecake Factory restaurants.
Because members of Congress are only required to list the monetary ranges of their assets and income on the financial forms they must file annually, exact dollar figures for the various holdings were not provided.
Kerry's only earned income was his $158,100 Senate salary. Kerry did not report receiving any gifts, according to the filing papers.
The wealth of Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, has been estimated at more than $550 million.
She also listed a stake in the Thyme Square Restaurant, valued between $250,001 and $500,000, as part of her vast holdings.
Heinz Kerry's ownership of Flying Squirrel Inc., her personal air charter company, was worth more than $1 million.

Boy, ZsaZsa Heinz keeps her dog boy on a short leash.
How about those shotguns... I believe there were two... that were given to him in the 2004 campaign?
Calling the $158,000 dollars Kerry got from his Senate salary EARNED income is a bit of a stretch.
He wasnt there enough to earn that salary and the Senate should have docked him for time he took off campaigning.
LT ping
"I'm a D student and I'm gonna tell my new Mommy you were picking on me."
BTTT
And as he's one of the most absentee senators, he didn't earn that either!
"I was actually for my credit cards before I was against them."
Not one person gave him ONE GIFT while he was running for POTUS? No gear? No ties? Nothing?
Sorry. I don't believe that.
Flying squirrel?!?!? I wonder if that is his pet name for little Teresa?
All those spa treatments add up.
Why would anyone with that much money pay interest on a CC?
That is really wastefull and stupid..
Wastefull & Stupid...ahh no wonder he is a US Senator and from Mass.
this is probably just an EOY snapshot of current card balances...i bet he runs 50k a month in card bills anyway.
to clarify, i mean I assume he pays off his cards monthly but this is a snapshop of the current balance at point X in time for the filing.
yep.
One thing that really tees me off about our elected representatives is when they miss votes. They should be docked if they miss a vote.
If the above was law, my man Kerry owes We The People at least a year of his Senate salary.
