LARGO, Fla. -- An autopsy on Terri Schiavo backed her husband's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. It also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused.
But what caused her collapse 15 years remained a mystery. The autopsy and post-mortem investigation found no proof that she had an eating disorder, as was suspected at the time, Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin said.
Autopsy results on the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman were made public Wednesday, more than two months after Schiavo's death March 31 ended an internationally watched right-to-die battle between her husband and parents that engulfed the courts, Congress and the White House and divided the country.
Thogmartin also said she did not appear to have suffered a heart attack and there was no evidence that she was given harmful drugs or other substances prior to her death.
She died from dehydration, Thogmartin said.
He said she would not have been able to eat or drink if she had been given food by mouth as her parents' requested.
"Removal of her feeding tube would have resulted in her death whether she was fed or hydrated by mouth or not," Thogmartin told reporters.
He also said she was blind, because the "vision centers of her brain were dead."

I think you meant to send that EXCELLENT question to Bones75.....
Was Terri on any steroids at the time? Or under stress. Stress and steroids soften bones. (Pregnancy too.)
To speed the process.
There was so much in there that you failed to mention: descriptions of signs of strangulation: the fact that they were talking about victims that could be interviewed, etc. I'm not going to post anything from there. I don't believe in excerpting out of context. But you posted the link, so others can read it and decide for themselves.
I'm curious as to why you think Mark Fuhrman would be credible. I read his book on the OJ and Skakel cases and thought they were simply synopses of what others had done. Nothing very revealing or impressive.
If those cases were more thoroughly examined, who knows? But that is not present circumstance, nor was it when Terri was found near death at the house.
Needless to say, this is no surprise to many of us.
One does not need to be a Librarian
to get the court records, reports
documentations online.
I did this way back in Jan/Feb/Mar.
Even Hunter Thompson did not put such a burden on his loved ones. He just left them with a wet table and a messy kitchen -- the observation and the clean-up. Bad enough that was.
You already got them and still you're asking me to get them? Jeeesh.
I didn't, but that doesn't surprise me in the least.
I do hope one of these people comes out and says or writes something sufficiently explicit to be actionable. The cowards like to pussyfoot around with insinuations.
Then perhaps you should refrain from making baseless accusations which you cannot substantiate.
Hunter Thompson left his family with the sound of his suicide on the phone. His family was left with the memories of a drug-addled jerk.
It's not anywhere, b/c no strangulation or attempts at strangulation ever happened!!
Not in any of the reports!
One cannot prove a negative.
Not even you.
It's useless for me to try and debate the results with some people. No one's mind will be changed.
I'll be quiet now...sw
If they have so many documents in their favor....What's keeping them from taking MS to court?
They are good at that, but they always lose.
All they are doing is keeping their attorney's pockets full.
Really? Should the doctors who Michael Scavio SUED get their money back now?
I am so late getting to this thread, but here are my thoughts, take them for what they are worth....
On the matter of the ME report, I will take it as stated...I do not believe that Michael Schiavo, and Judge Greer ever came into the MEs mind, when he was doing his autopsy...he did his autopsy, reported what he found, wrote down his conclusions based on what he found, and let the chips fall where they may...he did his job, I believe, uninfluenced by any political motives...many may disagree, thinking that the ME is on the take, is slanting his findings to support Michael Schiavo, and Judge Greer...I just dont buy into that conspiracy mode...others have bought into that conspiracy mode, and once in that mode, will never, never, ever change their minds....had even a Dr. Baden, or Dr. Cyrl Wecht, been present at the autopsy and agreed with the ME, I still think that the conspiracy thinkers would never change their minds...that is why conspiracies continue to go on and on...conspiracy believers, believe what they want, no matter what evidence is shown them...nothing anyone says or does can ever change their minds, and that is just the nature of it....and thats fine...(I have a couple of conspiracy beliefs myself, but the Terri Shiavo case is just not one of them)....
On the matter of Sean Hannity...I have never been able to stand him, ,he just rants on and on....I know many people like him, but for myself, I find him to be a very close minded person, who sets himself up to believe a certain thing, and will never, ever change his mind...again, thats all fine and well...I give him credit for standing his ground on what he believes, just find him arrogant, and unwilling to admit that others may be right on a particular subject, while he himself is wrong...I find him unable to concede that he may have his facts wrong...
Let me say this from the start...I fully supported the Schindlers wish to have custody of Terri...I did believe that Michael Schiavo had more pressing concerns with his present family, ,and perhaps did not put Terri first and foremost in his concern...however, and this is a big however, I never did believe that he purposely decided to 'kill' Terri by strangulation, or suffocation on the nite she collapsed, but I could be wrong...however, I am admitting I could be wrong...too many folks who believe Michael did try to strangle or suffocate Terri, will never, ever believe otherwise...and will never admit that they might be wrong...
On the matter of Terri being able to follow directions while in a supposed 'PVS', and having the films to prove it...I have taken care of folks in the nursing home, who did have PVS...I took care of them for years...and there were times, very infrequent, when it appeared for a few seconds that they might be following me with their eyes, or responding to me...but it was so infrequent, maybe once every month or so, that it was probably just a random movement that happened to coincidentally correspond to my movements or voice commands...I would like to have seen the whole film of Terri, where she supposedly responds to her parents or the doctor, not the edited few seconds....the whole time frame itself, would be much more informative...I have to suspect, that the reason the whole film has not been shown, is that it would show a non-responsive Terri, which her family did not want us to see...
But I can understand the Schindlers pain, at seeing their child in such a state...and their despair at losing Terri...I have lost a child(to Cancer), and I can tell you, I would have done anything to keep him alive, much as the Schindlers would have done anything to keep Terri alive...so I can understand their pain, and understand their love for their daughter, their desire to keep her alive, no matter what....
I do know, and understand, that feeding tubes are pulled all the time...it just does seem to be a terrible way to die...and yet the practice has always existed, and will always exist....I do not see the Schiavo case having any influence on that practice at all....What Terri did or did not feel, upon having that feeding tube removed, is something we will never really know...there are those who will maintain, that she suffered greatly, and the other side says, if her brain was so debilitated, she felt nothing...
There will be those on FR on one side, and those who will be on the other, and that is always the way it is....people disagree...what I found so horrible on FR, was how mean, ugly, nasty, and just downright awful people got when discussing this case...people on both sides were name calling, and being called names, people were claiming others could not possibly be conservatives, people were just plain nasty to one another...it was sad to see people act this way...
And lastly, I have to say this...I dont believe that the Terri Schiavo case, will have any influence in the future, on how doctors and patients and families conduct themselves in cases of life and death...Terris plight did bring to the surface the many intricate, and gut wrenching decisions that often are made in life and death situations, and did make people think more about making their wishes made known to their families...
But feeding tubes are still being pulled in nursing homes and hospitals, every day...husbands and wives are still making medical decisions for their spouses...doctors are still dealing themselves with these questions of life and death...
I sure do get longwinded, dont I?....I know that many of us disagree with each other on the different aspects of the Terri Shiavo case, but disagreeing is one thing, and just plain name calling and ranting, is a different matter...I hope that we can all discuss, without stooping into the mud...
And I ask you, would you be okay with removing the feeding tube if there was a written legal document signed by Terri prior to her collapse saying that would be her wish. There are a lot of people that dont think she should have that right, the Pope for example. Randall Terry for another.
I would have NO trouble with it. That is NOT, however, what happened.
I SAW the radiology report that indicated trauma.
It is very telling for you to say "who knows what happened to her? The autopsy report is inconclusive". And yet, it is conclusive if it supports the rest of what you believe.
