2 victims taken from sceneAh, that's too bad- but perhaps this will mean it'll get more than passing mention in the news (yes, being cynical- but you know...)

the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie company has one in Oakland that they charter out for sightseeing flights. Let's hope they give out cookies or muffins as snacks on these flights?! ;-)

Even a small cargo operator carries passengers sometimes. Also some DC-3s are used for skydiving.

Thanks for posting those pics....I've seen this plane in use when we've gone to the Bahamas several times.

It was pretty cool to see it flying around SF, love the sound of the radial engines. There was a DC-6 that was being restored there about a decade ago by United Airlines retirees, not sure where that wound up.

Pilot did a damn fine job, landing in the street BETWEEN homes on either side.

It is a great plane. I built a scale model (balsa, 36" wing span) a few winters ago and had a great time doing it. I feel like I know every inch of that plane.

DC-3's are widely used around the Caribbean for cargo hauling.

Twenty-five years ago I flew on a DC-3 in passenger service, out of a coastal city in Honduras to land on a beach (not a runway) on Roatan, an island off the coast. If I had not been relatively young and stupid, I wouldn't have boarded that plane.
There was oil leaking out of the engines and running down the wings as we were taking off. The highly sloped floor was unpainted plywood. And several of the Honduran passengers were carrying life animals. I told myself, "This is a DC-3. These planes can fly anywhere, under any conditions, with any cargo." LOL.
