Per Fox News...
Netherlands: Minimum Drinking Age (MDA) -
Minimum Purchasing Age (MPA):16, 18
Notes: The MPA is 18 for spirits. The MPA is 16 for beer, wine, and distilled beverages with an alcohol percentage under 15%.
I started singing the same song after the Deejay's last post...LOL
Birmingham is a good-sized city. Reportedly, the child had travelled to Europe and Canada and had been on a few cruises. She's not some hick from Possum Trot. (Alabama) Or even Double Springs. (pronounced Duuuuuh-buhl Sprayhngs)
I haven't read anywhere about whether or not she has/had any siblings. Having brothers tends to make one a little more worldy-wise. (that was certainly the case for meself.)
I think the best way to "teach common sense" is to be the best of example of same. And talk about all the options as you go through life with your kids, friends, etc.
I never met a 15% beer I didnt like!
we drilled into all three girls to NEVER leave you friend behind, and to NEVER let them go alone without you unless you know it's wrong and can't stop them... then either call or come home
i hitched close to 10,000 miles in the 70's and if i'd of got killed it would of been my own damn fault.
what is it they always say about the serial killer next door??? "But he was such a nice looking boy..."
Oh my god, there is a Possum Trot, Alabama! I just googled it.
You know, I have only known two of my high school friends that have died...both died in car accidents after graduation parties...
There was a report on Fox News about a month or so ago, that was horrible...it said that hundreds of soldiers, that have made it through 1 or 2 tours in Iraq, come home, and are dead within a month from car accidents, and other accidents...it is like they feel they are invincible, since they made it through Iraq...
Bad things happen...and to make it more of a cliche...bad things happen to good, smart, educated, common sense filled, people....it just does!
I grew up in Boulder Co. in the 70's and used to hitch-hike everywhere I went...didn't think twice about it, either.
Sorry, I'm confused. Has her death been confirmed by authorities at this point?
"As I heard it, the "security guards" were hanging around the Holiday Inn wearing uniforms from another hotel that had been closed for several weeks for renovation. That alone would make them suspicious persons given her subsequent disappearence."
They were also known to the cops and had been hitting on the women tourists. Those 3 kids didn't finger them out of the blue. They probably knew their reputations.
No.
I agree...the chaperones should have been more responsible. I pray for this girls family...I know they must be in terrible pain!
It's been denied as of this time...why these threads continue in 'chat mode' is beyond me. Locking or yanking might be in order.
My husband and I picked up hitch hikers all the time in the late 60's/early 70's. Never worried about it in those days.
Fox News says the govt is saying she is dead, the family says they havent been notified of that.
So your daughter should wait for marriage but your sons can have sex outside of marriage if it's okay with the girl?
Dang, she is 17 and has been to Aruba, Europe and Canada???
Wow--I thought I was lucky getting to go to Disneyland once when I was 12...I was a world traveler!!!
If she has traveled that much, her parents should have taught her more about "the world"---even at my age, I would be very nervous vitsiting a different country.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with her traviling so much, maybe I am a little jealous, but she should have more on guard.
There could be and I am sure that there are other reasons for that other than them feeling invincible, like readjustment or non- readjustment to a civilized world compared to living in a 24 - 7 bombing zone for 12+ months.
