Per Fox News...
as an aside... i don't believe that i've said ANYTHNG about her except she was stoopid for getting in the car... nothing else that i can remember anyway, but if i did, please let me know what it was.
Empathy, understanding, trust and belief in their fellow man all sound like Liberal concepts. Conservatives should know better.
I thought it was a Three Dog Night Song...
anyway, the Hoyt Axton lyrics go:
Well, I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
The don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it
Well, I never been to England
But I kinda like the Beatles
Well, I headed for Las Vegas
Only made it out to Needles
Can you feel it
It must be real it
Feels so good
Oh, feels so good
Well, I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well, they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter
ARUBA LAWS: 1. Has no sodomy laws, the age of sexual consent is 16 for all. Homosexual contacts with minors under the age of 16 is punishable with a penalty of up to 4 years imprisonment. Heterosexual contacts with minors under the age of 16 are only criminal under certain conditions.
I think it's because your comment is based on hindsight. I look at the pictures of the accused don't see anything that would indicate that those boys were dangerous. Heck, we still don't know if they're dangerous.
I've accepted plenty of rides from people I didn't know or didn't know well. Heck, some of 'em were foriegners! Yet here I am, amost 39 and none the worse for wear.
There are horrible people everywhere. But to assume that everyone you meet intends to do you harm is a helluva miserable way to go through life.
Now, I'll have that one goin' round & round in my head for days!
Last Sunday, Dwight Yoakam's "Long White Cadillac" tune got into my head & didn't leave until yesterday!
No rape laws?
I hope you are being sarcastic. If not, you must be a real curmudgeon.
Those are the same attributes of any true Christian.
Well, think Netherlands...those are the laws.
I know I have it on an LP (yes, an LP.)
It was a beautiful place, with lovely people, and many many families vacationed there.
America has terrible places where evil evil things happen too and it's a damned shame when a whole island or a whole country is slammed because there are some bad people there.
As in: "My dad is the big mucky muck here."
Followed by: "Nobody says no to me."
tonite is a good night to have the 70's radio show on...all 70'a all night long......
But are the ladies sane there?
I googled it, Elvis did record it...good cross-over song.
If the other two dudes said she was willing, this kid will skate.
If the Dutch punish 6 years for a rape, as a minor that kid will get off light.
There are a couple of posters on this thread that are discussing the age when one becomes RESPONSIBLE...
I think at different ages, one is responsible for different things, but the very second that a girl/woman becomes pregnant, she becomes responsible for another human being...
IMHO, that responsiblity can be carried out in different ways...for example if a girl gets pregnant and is too young to take care of or even want that child, it is her responsiblity, IMHO, to physically take care of herself long enough to give that child a healthy start, and then place the child in the home of a couple, who can't have their own child...
In this case, sure Natalee had the ultimate responsibility for herself, but I still think that one of those chaperones should have been at that bar, and taken it upon himself/herself to stop her from going in a car with a boy she barely knows!!!!
God forbid we say anything to our children that might cause them to THINK.
Sounds like you have found another disease for the Democrat's and the VICTIM'S GROUPS of AMERICA [VGA]to complain about.
It is called PTSS or PRE-TRAUMATIC STRESS SYNDROME.
"It sounds too much like this: "As a young male your sexuality makes you so stupid that you probably believe it is OK to rape women. Well, it is not OK, because as your moral superior I say it is not OK." "
Imo, it isn't implying that men think it's okay to rape women - although some scumbags do. It's dealing with the fact that men and women can have very different ideas about what constitutes rape and that that difference often comes down to what men and women think constitutes non-verbal consent - which is why a man, for his own sake as well as the woman's, should follow the verbal cues first and last.
"Instead, try: If a woman tells you to stop, and you dont, you increase the risk that you will be publicly accused of rape. The accusation alone may be enough to ruin your life, even if she consented in every way but verbally."
I'd change that last sentence to "...even if YOU THINK she consented in every way but verbally."
I changed it bcse some men, especially younger ones, aren't exactly aces when it comes to interpreting non-verbal cues from women - or at least the kind of cues that are less subtle than her tearing off her panties and climbing on top of him. A tiny example: I had a good guy friend in college who suddenly tried to kiss me in the middle of a conversation. I told him I wasn't interested in him that way, he said okay, and we continued the conversation. Ten minutes later, he tried to kiss me again. When I asked him what the hell was wrong with him, he told me that he thought I wanted him to try again bcse I hadn't left the room. He saw a non-verbal invitation where none existed. And while he was a million miles away from being a rapist, in that situation he engaged in the kind of thinking that can lead to rape.
This is very simple. Parents need to teach their kids that there are genuinely bad people out there. And they need to teach their kids how to be safe.
If they don't know how to do this, the local police department probably has access to professionals who can do it. And it will probably be free. I know a bunch of cops and there's not one among them who wouldn't rather teach a course for concerned parents rather than knock on a door and say "you're kid is dead" to some parent.
