bizarre circumstances This is the driver of wall to wall news. Mystery is also critical. This case has EVERYTHING.
The fellow that shot the judge was not blond. That story was huge.

In other words, DO NOT BLAME THE VICTIM I agree - don't blame the victim.
However, those of you with teens - sit them down and talk about this story. Tell them that growing up too fast may be dangerous. There is a reason parents are (or at least should be) protective. Bad stuff happens out there. Be vigilante, be careful.

I was thinking that it sounded like an ectasy situation too. There have been many bad reactions to that drug.

"Lacy Peterson was Hispanic."
But she wasn't blond, and my opinion is that when blonds go missing, especially if a lot of photos available for the visual media, they will get more coverage in the visual media - in general. Lacy and Chandra, as a story, had other things going for them.
Also what fuels these cases' coverage is a sense of mystery, eg, the victim's fate, and whether details dribbing out can keep viewers engaged in the mystery day by day. In Aruba, it was the info about the "boys" then the arrested black men (making the investigation a story in itself), the parents looking for Natalee, etc. In the Peterson case Scott seemed to go out of the way to make some stupid statement or act everyday to keep interest in the story.

Fire the chaperons. Chaperons hell. Allowing these kids to be in bars at 2:00 am proves the obvious. Which is, the adults were there for their own good time. They tagged along for a cheap vaction. A-holes, all.

We talk till we're blue in the face. They think nothing bad will happen or they'll be able to deal with it.
Most of us are incapable of understanding evil.
Kids are stolen while delivering newspapers, going to the mall, coming out of work, taking a walk in their own neighborhoods.....other than never ever letting your child out of your sight, we cannot deliver them from evil.

if you had gone down there with her in the first place, you'd still have your daughter. Exactly. A son or daughter of mine, would have never gone there w/out me. I would have looked after my own.
Natalee's parents depended on the chaperones.

I believe Laci was Portuguese.

That is very wise of you. I hope both of your children live by that teaching.

Am I the only one who thinks her parents should never have let her go in the first place? (Even if she was 18, you can oftentimes keep kids from doing things if you really put your foot down.) I saw the mom on TV saying she wouldn't leave without her daughter, and thought, you know, if you had gone down there with her in the first place, you'd still have your daughter.
If they live under my roof, eat my food and spend my money, being 18, 19, 20 does not mean a damned thing. What I say goes. They have three choices at 18, live under my authority, go down to the admissions desk at the university or march their ass down to the recruiter's office.
With Howard Dean the dems have formally graduated from "disarray" to "debacle", with "irretrievable disaster" just around the corner.

There were no "chaperons"...IE no adults to make any decisions as to what the kids did or did not do.
Actually the reason the parents let the kids go to Aruba is precisely the fact that they could drink there legally.
Bad judgment for parents to do this.
There is a reason not to let 18 yr olds drink alcohol.

I hope a lot of youngsters starting their summer vacations (some of them possibly in places like Aruba) heed your advice.Six years ago, our daughter wanted to take that exact trip for her graduation present. We put out collective foot down and said a FIRM NO! I think my recently married daughter understands our wisdom now, although she certainly didn't then.

Just heard on the radio that officials in Aruba are neither confirming nor denying statements made by anyone concerning this case.
