I suggest you actually look at a form 180. There are only two choices: Deleted and undeleted. If the Globe claims he signed an undeleted request, then maybe it is true. They put "quote" around the word, so they were looking at the form at the time, presumeably.
(And I bet I know more about all of this than you, no matter my sign up date.)
"If the Globe claims he signed an undeleted request, then maybe it is true."
They also said he was in Cambodia 1n Dec 1968
I know where I was, in the Gulf of Tonkin
Where were you?
Wouldn't the National archives be the way to the truth? It seems I read an article about this recently.
I suggest YOU look again at the Form 180. The deleted and undeleted sections apply only to obtaining a copy of DD-214, report of seperation (Section 1). Section 2 is the pertinent section for most of us who have waded through this. It includes copies of other military records that could be held at multiple repositories. If he wanted to really come clean, he (or sycophants Kranish or Brinkley) would show us a Form 180 with a request for more than just a DD-214.

Deleted/Undeleted refers to the SPD/SPN's. DD214's were originally issued with a SPN. This was a code designation that essentially categorized you & the reason for seperation, among other things.
employers got their hands on the code book, and were able to decipher the codes. http://www.utahvva.org/documents/spn%20codes_num.htm
I believe the Feds/DOD got sued and were required to redact that section of the DD214.
Re: Kerry & his possible discharge clean-up. While the discharge was strangely given under the Carter administration, I happen to agree with you on this one. There is no evidence that Kerry could have/should have been covered under Cater's amnesty.
We pretty much sliced & diced it up on the swift vet forums and couldn't make it stick.
It would be interesting to know if Kerry had SPD/SPN codes on his DD-214
Anyone who believes what Kerry's kneepad-wearing, NYT-owned, hometown newspaper said about a document release, without an actual complete publication of *the* signed 180 and the released documents (pdfs on a web page, originals available for view), probably doesn't have the critical thinking skills to "know" much of anything.
