Good morning, fellow political junkies. I'm starting the thread early, because I'll be out and about for much of the morning. Follow along, and comment here, as usual..
NOTE: It's reported today that members of the Congressional Black Caucus are going to march to the Senate today to protest her confirmation. Sisters, sisters......not!..Will they march into the Senate. Will they stage a "sit-in" in the well of the Senate? Will they burn their bras? Will they crowd around "Sheets" and lynch, er...hug him?
Might be a classic TV moment. Might not. BTW..have you all noticed that Cynthia McKiney has been near-invisible since she won her seat back? Wassupwitdat??? And even Mad Maxine Waters is silent. Do you think the House Dems finally realize they are out of power? To repeat one of my fave stats for your edification, "60% of House Dems have NEVER served in the majority"
Yesterday on the Senate floor..it was pretty quiet. More quorum calls than speeches. Everyone here was following the LA freeway mess, and/or the MJ trial. Hmm..could we have a verdict today?
Will John Kerry speak today? Will he raise the "DowningStreetMemo" on the Senate floor, or will he enter his college transcript into the record?
Frist may or may not show his hand today, and indicate what nominees he will call up next. IMHO, that will show if he wants to force the Dems to filabuster now, or wait for a SC vacancy. The Dems have some hard decisions to make.
And we may then see if he intends to revisit the Bolton nomination this week, via the "Motion to Reconsider". He's playing his cards very close to the vest. I think he'd like to make the Dems engage in multiple simultaneous filabusters.
Have any of you reassessed you opinion of his strategy since the compromise?
And lastly, may I have your indulgence to point out that last night, Pedro Martinez pitched a two-hitter; the Mets won again,.....and, AND, even better, the Yankees once again LOST. Could they go 1-11 on this road trip? Gawd, life is sweeeeeet.
Rock and roll and off we go!
JRB for CHIEF SCOTUS!:
Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown
We no longer find slavery abhorrent. We embrace it. We demand more. Big government is not just the opiate of the masses. It is the opiate. The drug of choice for multinational corporations and single moms; for regulated industries and rugged Midwestern farmers and militant senior citizens.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown
The quixotic desire to do good, be universally fair and make everybody happy is understandable. Indeed, the majority's zeal is more than a little endearing. There is only one problem with this approach. We are a court.

Government is the only enterprise in the world which expands in size when its failures increase.

The public school system is already so beleaguered by bureaucracy; so cowed by the demands of due process; so overwhelmed with faddish curricula that its educational purpose is almost an afterthought.

Perhaps the CBC will call up Media Benjamin and the Code Pink wackos for some pointers on how to disrupt official proceedings...
Thanks for the thread, I'm scheduled with appts this AM too.
Appreciate all who take the time to comment on what is going on/ being said.
FYI..good morning..the place to be..
I'm working downtown today, what time do you think things will get good?? 2pm , 3pm ??
Can't see her for CJ..I think W expects to make 3 SC appts..possibly 4...She might be the third nominee he names..give her some time on the Dc circuit. I'd hope he names Estrada to the SC, but he could decide to name him to JRB's slot on the DC court after she moves on up...( gawd, that sounds like the Jeffersons..)
Justice Brown is a giant. Turn on the tv and see her list of accomplishments, her writings, then switch the channel and there's that humbug, Jesse Jackson, comparing a police raid on Neverland with Waco. Only in America.
Thanks for the ping
Boy, I could use that extra washing machine...I'll be doing my son's family laundry today...
Depends on what Kerry does, or doesn't do? Frist sets the tone, then Reid should speak today..he wasn't even on the floor yesterday..very unusual..must have been in a back room somewheres. The Senate is in executive session, so as I understand it, if there are no senators who want to speak on the nomination, than any senator can request a UC to speak as if in morning business, and bloviate about anything..<P.
BTW..how was Bermuda? No scooter injuries, I trust?
lol!
Thanks for those Janis Rogers Brown quotes. I'm going to distribute those freely.
Wouldn't it be sweet if they looked up along their marching route and saw Judge Brown standing next to President Bush? :-)
Q: What does the lady say as she sits on top of the washing machine?
A: Come on, genie..do it AGAIN!!!!
LMAO!
