The two suspects arrested in connection with the disappearance have just been charged with murder, homicide and kidnapping leading to homicide.
Is it crazy to think they might hold them on suspicion of murder, kidnapping, with the idea that if the truth was that they sold her to a prostitution/drug ring, they'd come clean rather than be convicted on a murder charge? Her father's just been on Fox. Nice man, heartbreaking.
According to her highschool spokesman, the trip wasn't school sponsored, but one that this 'group' had gone on for several years. He didn't say what particular 'group' he meant, but clearly kids and parents involved. So they have this Aruba trip for three or four years, and everything is fine. Most parents would feel confident that their kids would be safe. No doubt they read her a list of do's and don't's before she left, but she didn't listen. On the top of that list had to be Don't go anywhere alone. Take a girlfriend or chaperone with you. She is said to have packed her bags and left for the evening, taking a little cash and her driver's license.
This is from Aruba's Am Digital:
The fact that the three young men that were seen leaving the nightclub with Natalee Holloway were not detained and their photos not published
is strongly questioned in the community. The explanation that we have obtained indicates that there is nothing concrete against the trio. They were never detained but only questioned as witnesses. The three explained that they left the nightclub with Natalee and dropped her off at the Holiday Inn, but not at the main lobby entrance. Considering that something might have gone wrong when the trio was behind the lighthouse with the girl, police decided to do a search in that area without any result. There are no reasons to detain the three young men. In separate interrogations the three were
asked if there was anybody that could have seen them when they dropped of the girl. All three, separately, mentioned to have seen the security guards of the hotel speaking to the young lady when they were leaving. The description of the guard uniforms does not match with the guards of the Holiday Inn. The security tapes of the hotel indeed show the two guards, of the Allegro Resort, walking in front of the hotels. Based on this a search was made at the Allegro Resort that is closed for renovation. The two guards were thus the last to see Natalee.
I heard 7, at first, too. Then last night cable tv, can't recall which news station, said it was 43, which seemed rather odd.
I also want Natalee found, one way or another. The story of that other American woman who disappeared off a cruise ship a few years ago really makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. She's been seen, with links to that same bar, and in one case, at a brothel since burned down, where she spoke to a US naval officer who wasn't supposed to be there. She told him her name and begged him to help her. Immediately, some man came over and ordered her back upstairs. The officer finally told her parents about it a few years later (he saw a poster or program detailing her name and disappearance),and apologized. I remember seeing this case on tv a while back, too. Maybe on America's Most Wanted.
Yes, I heard that it was not school sponsored. I'm sure the school is relieved - because it erases their liability.
I didn't realize though that this was a trip they took often .. then maybe she already had relationships on the island we might not know about ..?? Hmmmmm?
And .. if they did take the trip often .. it might have given the parents a false sense of security.
I apologize for bringing up race, but from what the press has reported, one of the two men in custody has approached and made suggestive comments to blonde women before. I'm trying to work backward from Natalee's disappearance, why would she willingly go off with three guys at night? At the time I posted, I didn't know she'd made the acquaintance of one of them earlier in the trip. Whatever, the premise of that recent Sandra Bullock movie came to mind. The two young men in the movie seemed to be nice guys, but from the trailer shown on tv, were not.
It was reported that the three or maybe two of the three had left Aruba, which seems suggestive.
Thanks for the update. Sure would like to hear something official on this.
Reported on tv?
I would like to see them take a lie detector test...I don't know what happened to Natalee, but am praying for a resolution for the family. Not knowing must be killing them.
The mother of one of the two fired guards says her son was with her. The girlfriend/wife of the other says the same thing. They both seem to have alibis. The whole thing is a mess, and no matter who ends up really charged, there'll always be a suspicion we don't know what happened to her. Especially if her body never turns up.
Same thought came to me...
Natalee hadn't been down there before, nor her parents. It was some 'group' of parents and kids they knew or belonged to. There were pictures of her in a band type costume. Maybe it was a parents/friends of the marching band who sponsored this trip. Even a church group?
I'm beginning to think these two guys are ringers for the real murderers.
Yes, I heard that on Fox this morning, that two of the three had left or maybe all three, then the reporter seemed to contradict himself.
Something ain't right there. Sounds like the nice white boys daddy's got them out of town.
I heard that in passing last night, just like a throwaway line, on either Fox or MSNBC.
I wouldn't be surprised. Many local guys on these islands tend to try to seduce tourist women. I'm sure this guy has hit on white women, black women, asian women and what have you.
I'm trying to work backward from Natalee's disappearance, why would she willingly go off with three guys at night?
Three possibilities: Naivete, she was interested in one of these guys or she was interested in having sex with all three of them. I think option 2 plus a little of option 1 is the likely reason.
Yeah, I was thinking a church group too - because her friends made those wrist bands and were talking about scripture.
