SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Canadian man was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for conspiring to smuggle South Korean aliens into the United States.

Tal Chung Kim, 55, of Vancouver, British Columbia, pleaded guilty in August in U.S. District Court, admitting that he tried to smuggle seven South Korean citizens into the United States through Canada near Lake Champlain in September 2003.

Canada put out the welcome mat recently. (They have a lot of empty space.) Why didn't this man's clients just stay there?

Does anyone ever get prosecuted for bringing illegal aliens over the Mexican border? Apparently they don't, it seems to be THE big business in Mexico.

I read the article and there's nary a mention as to what happened to the illegals after they "were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents shortly after the group crossed over into the United States".

I guess they got their Notice to Appear forms and are now well on their way to achieving the American dream.

Yes...but it isn't making the news. Mrs. HJ sat a trial in US District Court in Tucson where they convicted a family of running a drop house, the coyote was tried separately...and it never made it into the papers or TV.

If we did, maybe the coyotes would start to think twice about the cost of their criminal enterprise...there certainly isn't much disincentive now.

It's pretty well kept out of the news here in CA too. I agree it should be front page news, and the penalties should be stiff to discourage future coyotes (and illegals).

They are busting drop houses here in Yuma all the time, I don't hear anything in the news about it.

When the guys who held illegals at gun point got sentenced it was all over the news for several days.

He should have smuggled Mexicans. Bush would have given him a gold Cadillac.

South Korean aliens

If you are South Korean you are an ALIEN.
If you are Mexican you are an immigrant.

I understand now. /s

You've got to be a singularly inept smuggler to get caught moving people across the border with Canada. As porous as the Southern border is, Canada is ten times worse.

What freedom loving person would want to move to the People,s Republic of Canada? Right thinking Canadians have their work cut out for them.

Who's running our media, anyhow? I'm sick of stories that are important to us, the LEGAL US Citizens, being overlooked.
