Ignorant about Islam - Letter in the Philly Inquirer
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | June 6th, 2005 | Umar Abdur-Rahman

Ignorant about Islam

The writer of the May 30 letter "No peace with Islam" demonstrates gross ignorance of Islam and its basic teachings by falsely accusing the religion of being opposed to peaceful coexistence with other faiths. His statement that "Islam is not a well-meaning religion dedicated to peace and coexistence" finds no credible support in the Koran or the historical record.

Laura Bush's visit to the Middle East sent a positive message for all religious adherents. There is a dire need for greater outreach by all people in order to stem the tide of religious conflict and hatred that persists in the world.

While acknowledging there are extremists in all religions, the writer then incriminates 1.2 billion followers of Islam as culpable for the actions of a few extremists.

Such polemicists are the real obstacle to our world embracing diversity and tolerance. Muslim Spain was a perfect example of a flourishing society in which Jews, Christians and Muslims lived in mutual respect and cooperation. We should all do our part to create a world where such harmony exists instead of perpetuating hatred and discord.

Umar Abdur-Rahman

North Wales The writer heads the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Why is the Islamic Controlled governemnt in Saudi Arabia Rounding up, arresting, and punishing all the Christians in that coutry. Islam is spread by the father of lies and seeks to destroy Christ. Hence the Hatred of the Christians and the Jews. Someone is having a pipe dream if they think I am going to embrace Islam as if it were a truth and tolerence.

A few weeks ago a woman writer who speaks Arabic attended an indoctrination session at a mosque near NYC. Her account of what happened was posted on FR and was fascinating.

I would appreciate a link, a name or any means of finding this article.

Thanks

Intresting letter circulating on the net lately...

Don't know about the substance of it, but wouldn't doubt it either, being about the religion of peace and all...

Umar Abdur-Rahman must think some people still can't see that he's trying to wrap a turd in marshmallow.

That might have worked a few years back but now...Bahahahaha!!

This thread is a keeper.
I'd consider buying a PDA just so I could have this at my fingertips the next time one of my liberal friends tries to tell me Christianity is as evil and violent as islam.

I know it is hard to believe, but at one point in history, the countries of Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Turkey and Iraq had large populations of Christians. These countries were peacefully converted to Christianity by word of mouth.

They were conquered by Muslim armies (along with all of North Africa and Spain) and forcibly converted to Islam by the sword (conversion or death). There were even Muslim raiding parties penetrating deep into France. The spread of Islam was an invasion.

Muslim countries believe in something that is the polar opposite of Christianity. Example:

Muslim works to get to heaven vs Christian grace to get to heaven

Muslim conversion by man vs Christian conversion by spirit

Muslim "moon god" vs Christian "son god"

Muslim "Allah's will" vs Christian "free choice"

b,
That's the whole thing, right there.

There's no arguing that Christianity has spilled plenty of blood. Too much. But there is a big difference between history and now.

Ask your liberal friends why there are so few muslims involved in any respectable human endeavor. They are so proud of their "1.2 billion" number; why for such a vast population are so many illiterate, starving, or entirely ignorant of the world beyond their own borders? Why do they need to leave the muslim world to achieve their full potential?

How can so many countries ruled by the religion of peace call publicly for the extermination of Jews and Americans?

Hardly the behavior of a modern state.

"They were conquered by Muslim armies "

This is a delicate and yet incredibly serious issue. I have no doubt we are at war with islam, no doubt at all. When one states that view too loudly, it's easy for others to dismiss you as a kook.
I absorb the context and meaning of what I've read here and elsewhere. However, when debating some bed wetting leftist, they demand facts. I'm not good at total recall of Koran versus, nor do I wish to commit those to memory.
That's why saving bits of a thread like this is helpful.

The muslims are assembling a large army in Michigan, just north of me. They absolutely mean to overrun us from within, and the good people of Michigan are more than willing to assist in their own demise.

I fear for my children, I fear for my country, because we are sleeping soundly while a killer is in our bedroom.

I don't have time for this right now.

Let's discuss after next year's Interfaith Beakfast in the church hall of Our Lady of Riyadh. Or perhaps we could hold the meeting at First Congregational over at Medina? In the meantime, a great big infidel "Howya Doin'" to all our ecumenical Muslim pals who are out there practicing the Religion of Peace.

"There's no arguing that Christianity has spilled plenty of blood. Too much. But there is a big difference between history and now. "

There are violent passages in the Bible. My response is that Christianity has evolved, and we no longer take every word literally. islam has not evolved, and they are filled with bloodlust.

Their response to the lack of contribution by the 1.2Bn muslims is that Christians, the US in particular, oppress them. Not logical, I know, but remember most leftists dislike America. I won't go so far as to say they hate America, but they buy into the image of America as the evil manipulator.
